Alexandria!

I've just returned to Cairo from two amazing days in Alexandria. Fresh fish, beach, palaces, Roman ruins... Who could ask for more?

  1. Hi,what is the people like?
I have always been afraid of going to those countries.

  2. Hi Anonymous!

Well, I can safely say the people here are some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered! Although I may be a bit biased becauase I'm married to one of them! :)

  3. sorry.
maybe a lot of things I have heard about those countries are not true but I think it is the european perception we have abotut it.

  4. Lovely pics, Talli.

I went on a Nile cruise a couple of years ago and thought it a most interesting country, well worth a visit.

Drifting down the Nile, with palms, sand and camels on either side and the sun above, was one of the most blissful experiences ever, and the towns we visited were full of beautiful reminders of the cultural heritage of the Egyptians.

  5. I'm jelous. What a fab country and time you had. LOVE the pic of the cat. I don't know why, but I thought Egyptian cats would look different.

  6. Looks fabulous. Just to make you feel even better I can report weather in London is abysmal. Rain, rain and more rain.

    Have fun xx

  11. I meant to say something else, then decided I didn't want to accidentally start a heated debate here. Then decided that if I am going to be more honest this year, I shouldn't be so scared.

So Anonymous, this one is for you.

I am an Indian from India, so presumably a person from one of those countries you should be careful in/ of. Yes, there are people who will cheat you, people who will try to make a quick buck off you, people who will be plain rude. But there will also be people who go out of the way to make you feel at home, who would help you, and be really nice to you.
People are just people,no matter where they are. Some make you cringe, others make you proud.

And if I sound offensive, it was not meant. I do believe people are just people.

  12. Each picture has such a beautiful sky. Except the soup one, which is beautiful in its own way.

I'm glad you're having such a great trip. Happy New Year!

  16. I missed you while you were gone but you more than made up for it with these amazing photos!!!

I've never had a desire to visit another country (that's a lie... my husband hasn't) but this is giving me more reasons to push to get our passports to do a little traveling!

  19. Sorry Rayna.
I was just trying to be honest with my fears and thoughts.
    Sure that I was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks, everyone! I'm back to London on Tuesday so at least I still have a few more days of sun and relative warmth left!

Rayna, well said. Those stereotypes are rife, although I think they're on the decline now thankfully. You're right: people are people everywhere, both good and bad. I must say that I have found people everywhere on my travels to be warm and welcoming, no matter where they are and their economic circumstances.

Anonymous, many Europeans have fears about travel outside of their known environment. But those fears are usually perpetuated by those who don't travel!

Thanks again all! Looking forward to getting back into the blog hop routine when I'm back next week - I miss reading blogs!

  59. Speaking as a European, I would never be worried about going to visit exciting places. After all, I moved to Cyprus, a divided island. I feel safer here than in my own homeland, the UK.

It looks wonderful, Talli. I have found we can take day trips there! So when I am not saving for hundreds of other things, I will take a visit.
