Sweet Sunday: Creme Cake

It's warm and sunny, and really what could be better than spongy vanilla cake filled with fresh Chantilly creme and topped with fruit? It's like a little bit of summer in your mouth.

This photo is an actual slice of my wedding cake last August. My husband and I decided to buck tradition and go with a cake you could actually eat... and enjoy! So we went 100 metres down our street to Patisserie Valerie and ordered up a goody. It was delicious.

Right. I must have cake. NOW!
Happy Sunday!

  1. Oh, Talli, I could crawl thru the Internet and devour every crumb. Which is why I'm slimming now, sigh. And bravo for having a wedding cake one could enjoy. Most taste like mushy cardboard.

  2. Delicious! And what a perfect wedding cake-sweet, creamy white, and a hint of strawberry red passion.

  3. The cake looks yummy. I'd love to have a slice for breakfast.

I like the idea that you didn't go traditional with your wedding cakes. So many of those cakes you don't even want to taste much less eat.

    Have a wonderful Sunday.

  6. That looks delicious! I've indulged way to much the last week, plus I'm jetlagged, so I don't know what or when to eat!

  9. Fabulous looking cake, Talli! I had a rather splendid lemon creme brulee cheesecake recently, but a few strawberries on top would have made it even yummier!

    Have a good day, Clair.

  11. Oh yum, that looks so tasty.

I always used to go to Patisserie Valerie when I visited London with my ex. Loved it there.

  16. Your wedding - your cake. Glad you enjoyed!

  17. Oh, it looks good! And I totally agree with you about the ridiculousness of having a bad-tasting wedding cake - what's the point? I remember hearing that when our crown prince and princess got married, no one would eat their cake because, although it looked gorgeous, it had taken THREE weeks to make... Eeeew.

  18. Sorry for the torture, guys! It was SOOOOO good, though - really!

Alexandra - that's gross. Three weeks?

  19. Mmm that looks SO GOOD! I've never understood the fascination with perfect looking fondant covered cakes--they taste gross. I'd take taste over looks any day.

  20. Patisserie Valerie always makes me think of Absolutely Fabulous! I'm glad they opened some more branches - even though they charged me something eye watering for a ham sandwich last time I was there...

  23. It looks delicious. I love wedding cakes you can actually eat. A friend had a cheese wedding 'cake' (if cake is the right word) so tha all the guests could tuck in with crackers after the meal!
PS Every time I visit your site I always feel I should pick up a pen and start writing again. I think I will. Watch this space. And thanks for visiting my place today x

  24. Mmmmm....that cake looks delicious. I never do understand the people who have fruit cake for their wedding. I mean you never CRAVE fruit cake, do you? You 'd eat it though if it's the only sweet thing left in the house, clearly!

Hope you got your cake today!

  25. Rosie - aw thanks! I hope you do start writing again; judging by your blog posts, you're good at it! :)

David - I know. Fruit cake, blergh. And yes, I got my cake today! With fresh cream, yum.

  32. Talli,
I always thought most wedding cakes look better than they taste. But in this case, going by the picture, it looks good, looks real & I wish I could travel 100 metres to Patisserie Valerie!

Right now is strawberry season for a lot of people so I hope you're enjoying this concoction. I am so craving this right now, thanks! :)

The International Guild of Bakers... Have you never heard of them, chances are you've eaten their creations before! ; j

Good call on the cake! I've been to number of wedding lately, and the bywords seems to be blandly sweet but pretty...
Thumbs up for choosing a good cake for your wedding!

  48. I love a good cakey bun and am also shunning the traditional 'wedding' cake when I get married in October.

My mates are all fantastic bakers and are helping me out with home-made cheesecakes, cupcakes and victoria sponges - nomnomnomnomnom.
