It's warm and sunny, and really what could be better than spongy vanilla cake filled with fresh Chantilly creme and topped with fruit? It's like a little bit of summer in your mouth.
This photo is an actual slice of my wedding cake last August. My husband and I decided to buck tradition and go with a cake you could actually eat... and enjoy! So we went 100 metres down our street to Patisserie Valerie and ordered up a goody. It was delicious.
Right. I must have cake. NOW!
Happy Sunday!
Oh, Talli, I could crawl thru the Internet and devour every crumb. Which is why I'm slimming now, sigh. And bravo for having a wedding cake one could enjoy. Most taste like mushy cardboard.
ReplyDeleteDelicious! And what a perfect wedding cake-sweet, creamy white, and a hint of strawberry red passion.
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks yummy. I'd love to have a slice for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea that you didn't go traditional with your wedding cakes. So many of those cakes you don't even want to taste much less eat.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

Thoughts in Progress
The perfect June Sunday morning treat, with a second cup of coffee. And kudos to you for choosing a cake to YOUR liking, it looks delish!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, gorgeous! So much nicer than dry old fruit cake.
ReplyDeleteThat looks delicious! I've indulged way to much the last week, plus I'm jetlagged, so I don't know what or when to eat!
ReplyDeleteMmmm! Looks like you had a delicious wedding cake! :D
ReplyDeleteYum yum, looks much nicer than wedding cake.
ReplyDeleteFabulous looking cake, Talli! I had a rather splendid lemon creme brulee cheesecake recently, but a few strawberries on top would have made it even yummier!
ReplyDeleteHave a good day, Clair.
Oh gosh my mouth is watering ... Talli, every Sunday you to this to me. WHY??? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yum, that looks so tasty.
ReplyDeleteI always used to go to Patisserie Valerie when I visited London with my ex. Loved it there.
Yummy! That looks like the perfect cake for today... I'm off :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just cruelty to your bloggy friends. Cruelty.
ReplyDeletethere may be somethings that are better, but I can't think of any!
ReplyDeleteYUM!!!!
I second what Fran said. Sheer cruelty. :)
ReplyDeleteYour wedding - your cake. Glad you enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks good! And I totally agree with you about the ridiculousness of having a bad-tasting wedding cake - what's the point? I remember hearing that when our crown prince and princess got married, no one would eat their cake because, although it looked gorgeous, it had taken THREE weeks to make... Eeeew.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the torture, guys! It was SOOOOO good, though - really!
ReplyDeleteAlexandra - that's gross. Three weeks?
Mmm that looks SO GOOD! I've never understood the fascination with perfect looking fondant covered cakes--they taste gross. I'd take taste over looks any day.
ReplyDeletePatisserie Valerie always makes me think of Absolutely Fabulous! I'm glad they opened some more branches - even though they charged me something eye watering for a ham sandwich last time I was there...
ReplyDeleteOh my word! I wish we'd had a wedding cake like that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea for a wedding cake. It looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt looks delicious. I love wedding cakes you can actually eat. A friend had a cheese wedding 'cake' (if cake is the right word) so tha all the guests could tuck in with crackers after the meal!
ReplyDeletePS Every time I visit your site I always feel I should pick up a pen and start writing again. I think I will. Watch this space. And thanks for visiting my place today x
Mmmmm....that cake looks delicious. I never do understand the people who have fruit cake for their wedding. I mean you never CRAVE fruit cake, do you? You 'd eat it though if it's the only sweet thing left in the house, clearly!
ReplyDeleteHope you got your cake today!
Rosie - aw thanks! I hope you do start writing again; judging by your blog posts, you're good at it! :)
ReplyDeleteDavid - I know. Fruit cake, blergh. And yes, I got my cake today! With fresh cream, yum.
OMG I love that place! Particularly the one on Brompton Road (or is it Old Brompton?) and the one at Covent Garden.
ReplyDeleteYou know what really makes me feel good about your cakes? Knowing you won't fit in any nice dresses by the time we meet in July ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh YUMMY!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFruit??? On cake?? Jamais! LOL!
I'm kidding!! This is a lovely cake and you can't get more cakey than Patisserie Valerie - who do fab ice creams too!!
This is a lovely pic of your wedding cake - awwwwwwwwwwwww!
Take care
x
I'd love a little slice!
ReplyDeleteI'd love a little slice!
ReplyDeleteIt looks delicious and I love the idea of a delicious, edible, fun cake for your wedding. Will you make it an anniversary tradition?
ReplyDeleteStraight From Hel
That looks yummy!! I love summer strawberries, they're always the sweetest. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have the best posts. :) Seriously. I especially love Sunday's ones. They do look good enough to eat. :)
ReplyDeleteTalli,
ReplyDeleteI always thought most wedding cakes look better than they taste. But in this case, going by the picture, it looks good, looks real & I wish I could travel 100 metres to Patisserie Valerie!
Right now is strawberry season for a lot of people so I hope you're enjoying this concoction. I am so craving this right now, thanks! :)
How delicious! I can tell others agree!
ReplyDeleteThis looks absolutely delicious. Yum!

ReplyDeleteomg talli that is just CRUEL!
ReplyDeletenow i MUST have cake omg DROOOOOOOOL
mmm that looks great!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's how the blog world discovered that Talli also wrote copy for the secret IGB organization.
ReplyDeleteThe International Guild of Bakers... Have you never heard of them, chances are you've eaten their creations before! ; j
Good call on the cake! I've been to number of wedding lately, and the bywords seems to be blandly sweet but pretty...
Thumbs up for choosing a good cake for your wedding!
OMG I started my diet today and you have a post about cake on your blog!! Aaarrrggg *goes off to eat food that tastes like cardboard and sob*
ReplyDeleteC x
(Was lovely meeting you at Caroline's launch the other week!)
I love strawberries with my cake! Yummy :)
ReplyDeleteMouth watering now, must have cake.
ReplyDeleteI am drooling and dribbling here.... mmmmm
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is watering. It's a good thing Patisserie Valerie isn't near my house.
ReplyDeleteRight, if I were to you anything so rash as go on a diet, reading your blog would pretty much ruin it. :)
ReplyDeletemmm...sounds like a delicious way to start off a summer
ReplyDeleteI love a good cakey bun and am also shunning the traditional 'wedding' cake when I get married in October.
ReplyDeleteMy mates are all fantastic bakers and are helping me out with home-made cheesecakes, cupcakes and victoria sponges - nomnomnomnomnom.
