Today's Sweet Sunday is in honour of my Nova Scotian roots: blueberry grunt! You have to love a dessert with 'grunt' in its name.
Lots of gooey blueberries, plenty of sugar and some very yummy dumplings, all baked together and served up with a helping of cream.
Oh, my mouth is tanging already (and I don't care if tanging is a word or not, it's the perfect description for what my mouth is doing!).
Gotta get some grunt!
Happy Sunday!
Oh I make this, but I don't call it grunt! Maybe I should :)
ReplyDeleteThat does look mouth-watering and sounds yummy.

Thoughts in Progress
I'm grunting alright, but only because it's just a picture and not a real one.
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic, Talli - can I ask how you make the dumplings? x
ReplyDeleteOooh thanks for the recipe link! It doesn't look too complicated so I might give it a go! Waitrose are selling their blueberries half-price so this is definitely something to try!
ReplyDeleteI like a bit of grunt, me! :-)
Take care
x
Now that sounds great!!
ReplyDeletedo you know why it is called a 'grunt' my bluenose pal? Because when the moisture from the blueberries turns to steam it pushes up through the biscuit dough and makes little grunt noises. Or because when you serve it to men they grunt their pleasure because their mouths are too full to say 'YUMMY!'
ReplyDeleteWe're going to have a mega-harvest of wild blueberries this year from the looks of it along the trail. oh joy.
Wow! This looks amazing. Why do you tempt us with these delicious desserts, Talli? I'm trying to cut down on sweet things at the moment and pics like that just aren't helping. ; )
ReplyDeleteIt looks delicious. And I love blueberries!

ReplyDeleteClaire - sorry, I missed your comment! But yes, the recipe is there and you can dumpling to your heart's content! :)
Jan - I didn't know that's why it was called 'grunt'. Thank you!
Thanks everyone for your comments! I hope you're all having a good grunty weekend.
I love Jan's explanation of the whistling grunts during baking. I've never been to Nova Scotia and now I'm thinking all warm and homey thoughts about it. Thanks for the moment, Talli!
ReplyDeleteOh yum!
ReplyDeleteOh man that looks sooooo good. My breakfast now seems very very uninteresting :(
ReplyDeleteOh my! Love the picture AND the name. Yes, I DO gotta get some grunt!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks divine. Thanks for torturing me!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were from Nova Scotia Talli! I love Halifax, and, of course, Cape Breton, and all the towns in between. That looks delicious. My mom used to make dumpling stew, something Canadian westerners know nothing about! I will be trying out this recipe, maybe for my birthday this week. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful and yummy! This morning, I had strawberries, cherries, cheese, and bread. And coffee - lots of that.
ReplyDeleteIt looks, and sounds, absolutely DELICIOUS.
ReplyDeleteLooks like our "cobbler," but "grunt" is such a better name!! My mouth is watering...!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is going great!
((hugs))
Love it, gotta get me some grunt too! Looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteIf I give you my address, would you send me some?
ReplyDeleteGet some grunt! It's delicious! :)

You always list the best sunday treats!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it, looks good tho'.
ReplyDeleteLush has a soap called Pineapple Grunt. Smells amazing, tastes awful!
Now that looks like summer! And I'm sure it tastes like it too! YUM!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of this! Fresh blueberries are a month or so away - I'll be trying this then :)
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! I have blueberries in my fridge!! I can make this today. Yay!! I'm gonna have some grunt tonight, baby!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration (as always).
My mouth is tanging, too! I love blueberries - one of the few foods I like which is actually good for me. :)
ReplyDeleteActually, blueberry grunt looks like something I'd like to make with a recipe.
ReplyDeleteLooks great - Yeah Nova Scotia - I'm from Ontario!
ReplyDeleteOh, Nova Scotia, huh? I've always wanted to go to the Maritimes... someday, I will. That looks great. Do you have a recipe? Duh, never mind, saw the link.

Grunt is a strange name for a pudding but your food photo, as ever, looks delicious. I was sitting with family in Herts yesterday talking about you! We'd just finished a scrummy coffee and apple strudel, sitting in the sunshine in the centre of Ware, and I was sorry I hadn't done one of your wonderful 'before' pictures. By the time I'd thought of it all that was left were crumbs and coffee dregs.
ReplyDeleteI only have two words
ReplyDeleteRecipe please

my mouth is watering!
ReplyDeletethat's funny! I was just reading about grunts in one of my cookbooks. And last night my mom brought over a blueberry pie made w/ blueberries from her garden. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteA dessert with the word 'grunt' - oh save my sides! It's like calling a new chocolate bar 'Oink' or something. Looks yummy though! :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks so amazing, I could actually cry. I don't really like blueberries, but I could salivate over that photo forever.
ReplyDeleteohmygawd-that looks FABULOUS! And I agree, grunt in the name makes it just that much better.
ReplyDeleteWhen I start playing catch-up on my blog hopping activities, I usually scroll back through at least a week of posts. I'm sure glad I do that, because this blueberry grunt recipe looks incredibly good. My husband and I buy giant bags of frozen blueberries as snacks when fresh berries are not in season, so I always have them on hand. This looks yummy!
