I'm not one for posting extracts of work in progress, but I've just started fiddling around with a new idea and I'm excited! So I thought I'd give a little taste of what it's about. The working title is Build A Man, and here's a brief blurb:
Trin Holland dreams of the day when she’s a breaking-news tabloid reporter. Right now, the closest she gets to tabloids is when the Page 3 Girl shows off her booty at the plastic surgery clinic where Trin works. But when heart-broken Jeremy Ritcie walks in the door requesting a complete make-over – and asking her for help choosing his new look – Trin knows she’s got the makings of a tabloid story any editor would kill for.
And now for something old!
This is one of the photos from my recent shoot. More coming once I have the CD... I need help choosing!
Wow I'm the first to comment! Yay!! I love that honor!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blurb, I loved it, what an interesting beginning. You seriously had me from the first line wondering what she was talking about! What a place to work to become a reporter, I love it, great insight, I'm sure lots of people are curious about the insides of those offices, I didn't realize I was until I began reading!
Great picture! Can't wait to see the other choices! It's going to be tough!
Just about to log off and run to work but you're picture showed on my blog roll, and I just HAD to comment. Gorgeous. Love the smile and the jacket is stunning, like you!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way as Jen. You had me hooked at the first line. I like her voice. Very real.
I'm hooked, too! You have a great beginning there;)
ReplyDeleteI love your picture - can't wait to see the others!
Aw, thank ladies! I have to say it was painful looking at all the photos of ME! For some reason my lip did this funny thing and it looked like I was snarling in a few! :) Anyway, thankfully the photog did a great job and there are few passable ones.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the kind words on the extract! Far from polished, but I must say I do rather like the opening line...
The new story idea sounds good, especially like the line 'Doesn’t seem like much to aspire to, being face down on the floor of the Tube, right?' Heeheehee. The name 'Trin Holland' reminds me of your name! Small similarities. :)
ReplyDeleteYour author pic is lovely. I bet that even when you get the full CD that this may be the one you choose - the first one, or the first one you are happy enough with, is usually the one that sticks in the mind. Gorgeous, m'dear!
Great blurb and love the beginning of chapter one!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful, nice photo! And I'm wondering just how you know exactly what goes on in those botox places lol?
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!! Love that photo of yours!! I can see that on the jacket of your book!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the blurb to this new book!! And the start of chapter one is hilarious!! You can't go wrong with boobs wrinkly or saggy!!! Brilliant!!!
Take care
x
Thanks guys! :) I do like this photo - Jayne, you might be right!
ReplyDeleteKaren, hehe - Based on my own first-hand experience behind the counter!
Old Kitty - Can't go wrong with boobs, can you?
Thanks everyone!
Freaking Fantabulous!!!! LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I like the new pic, too ;-)
~JD
Hahahahaha! Oh my goodness, what a great excerpt! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are SO FREAKING PRETTY.
That's a gorgeous photo of you! (Sorry, the photographer in me went right to the picture.)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect picture, sophisticated and definitely stylin' with that jacket. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat extract. Love the picture too. See, you were worried about nothing. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree - your worries were unfounded. That photo is perfect.
ReplyDelete"...tries its best to smile." really enjoyed the extract & the photo is lovely. you are stunning! (though i prefer the one on your blog, its friendlier.)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this extract. You should be best pleased! I like your photo although I must say - I like the one on your blog too - it is more casual so I guess it depends on what you're going after. Wish I could come and do it. I'm doing a friend's here! yay.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to the beach and drink first.
Super blurb!! I have the hardest time with those. What a fun story to work with, too. And the excerpt is fun, too. Full of sass and humor. And your photo? Uh, what is old about it? You're gorgeous! Beautiful author photo.
ReplyDeleteLove the story, can't wait to read the rest of it. Just know it's going to be funny and intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThe photo looks wonderful. The color suits you. As for the lip thing, I think only you noticed that.

Dang woman, you know how to blurb!
ReplyDeleteAnd you look gorgeous!!
What a great setting for a novel. I loved it. It immediately got my mind going with all the interesting characters you would have go there to have a little work done. And the fun you'll have coming up with new sorts of procedures. Fab!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and great shiny new idea! I love them both.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us. :o)
Your picture looks great! And I LOVE the excerpt from your book! It's funny! I want more! And now I'm even MORE excited to read your new book!

ReplyDeleteI awarded you the meat and potatoes blog award over at This writer's Life. Cheers~ N
I like the new blurb, that could be me "sick of the sight of boobs" lol. The picture is great.
ReplyDeleteOoh - I used to love a good makeover story! Like the voice already :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture btw - Grzegorz really is talented!
Woohoo! Love your premise. Love the blurb too! I think you've to the making of a great story, very entertaining. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your pic too! Can't wait to see more!
First off, let me just say that that photo of you is gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteThe premise of Build a Man (I love the title and the character names!) is very unique and I really enjoyed reading the excerpt! Keep it up!
Great blurb and great picture! You look like a writer, woman!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your new idea! And you look so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteYou lot are too kind! Thank you for all your lovely words - on the blurb/ extract, and the photo.
ReplyDeleteI wanted the photo to be a bit more formal than the blog photo - something that can be used for promo purposes, etc. I'm still going to keep the blog photo as is, because I like it too!
The extract needs a lot of work but it was fun to kind of crank it out and see where it went! I'm enjoying getting to know the character.
Love the blurb, Talli! I can't wait to read your book--your voice is just the kind that attracts me. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd lovely photo, as well!
Funny. (The writing, not the picture.)
ReplyDeleteYay, a picture. I can't wait to see more. I love how the blazer photographed. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny beginning. And I like the logline. If you need any "research", watch Dr. 90210 from the E Channel. I don't know if you've seen it, but the show will give you "ample" info.
Your picture is gorgeous! You're going to make many people jealous. A published author and drop-dead gorgeous to boot.
ReplyDeleteI love the excerpt. It already has a fun voice and premise. Love it!
Great excerpt! I was hooked from the get-go. The humor was right up my alley and your pics are gorgeous dahling! Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteGreat excerpt! I was hooked from the get-go. The humor was right up my alley and your pics are gorgeous dahling! Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteLovely witty extract, Talli - I hate those perky boobs myself.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo - a lovely mixture of warmth and professional, will we see it in a bookshop in Dublin soon??
We'll be there with our hurls and helmets.
Wonderful excerpt! And I like the picture. Both the one at the end of the post and your avatar one.
ReplyDeleteYou should've just entitled this Something New! You have a new book excerpt & a New picture. You photograph very well & look very authorly.
ReplyDeleteI like your extract [is that English] & your pacing is great & I want to read more. Descriptions are fine & the 1 about "they treat me like some piece of fat squished out of their thigh" is vivid.
Good working title for now. If you want to share more, feel free.
Are you allowed to post a chapter from The Hating Game?
Oooo, your new WiP sounds terrific, Talli!!! The concept is perfect for our culture today! Love the voice and style!
ReplyDeleteYour author photo is classy and pretty! I don't think you have anything to worry about!
Thanks for posting your new WIP. I like the main character already and want to know more. It's so exciting to be able to read some of your fiction. Can we look forward to future shares like this?

ReplyDeleteI really like your new WiP. The blurb sounds really enticing, and the voice in the snippet is just really great -- it makes me like your main character instantly.
Oh my, you do write good blurb, and the first chapter pulled me right in. That is going to be a fun book.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo. You look very authorly.
WOw I'm ready for the rest of the story. Great blurb! Very nice photo. I can see that on the jacket of the book. :)
ReplyDeleteTalli, you look so pretty :) and professional in that picture. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd great blurb!
I'm sorry it took so long to reply. I've had quite a time trying to write today. But, I love the voice of your new MC. She quirky and blunt, and funny. I love personality like that. The plot sounds interesting... you don't give enough away so I'm dying to read on. Love the use of tits too.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for your new pics, they're lovely. You're really beautiful and I love the hair.

The picture looks great and professional and I may just need to purchase a velvety blazer. ;) Also, really love the direction of your wip...the voice, the premise. I have a friend who worked for Take a Break, if you need research? She just recently took a different job (PR work), wanting to get out of London.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely gorgeous. Not that I ever doubted you would. if the other pictures are anything like this, choosing is going to be hell.
ReplyDeleteand I really loved your blurb. Would love to meet you MC someday- she sounds like someone I will get along with.
Talli, I really enjoyed the excerpt. I like your MC already! As for your author photo well you already know how impressed I am with how the shoot turned out.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you have anything to worry about!

Brilliant idea and I loved the wee taster! Your voice comes through really strongly :-)
ReplyDeletePah, and you said you don't take good photos...i think I may have to start calling you Pinocchio
C x
Wow to both your first chapter and photo.
ReplyDeleteI won't go anywhere near you in RNA Conf. Nothing worse than standing next to a stunning blonde to look even more out of place.
As for first chapter, you grabbed my attention from the very first sentence. That is an amazing start to a book. Eyes wide open as you read the first sentence. And every paragraph was funny.
Oh wow, more booty than RussellBrand? *raises eyebrow, is that possible? hehe. And the we're not even on Harley St... maybe I've been there? Love it! Excellento work. Looking forward to the rest. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't find the Old part to the post??? What are you talking about young lady? V.lovely photo indeed.xx
PS: I am joking I've only ever been to Harley St for baby related scans. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat opener, Talli - would def. buy and read on - fab first line!
ReplyDeletePerfect post, perfect picture! Thanks for sharing, Talli.
ReplyDeleteFirst the snippet....I really enjoyed it. Very smartly written!!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I don't see how any of the other pictures could top that one. Very...very...nice!
Great opening Talli! I soo want to keep reading to find out what happens. Love the line "Doesn’t seem like much to aspire to, being face down on the floor of the Tube, right?"
ReplyDeleteAnd lovely photo too!
