Something Old, Something New...

Happy Monday! I'll start with the new first!

I'm not one for posting extracts of work in progress, but I've just started fiddling around with a new idea and I'm excited! So I thought I'd give a little taste of what it's about. The working title is Build A Man, and here's a brief blurb:

Trin Holland dreams of the day when she’s a breaking-news tabloid reporter. Right now, the closest she gets to tabloids is when the Page 3 Girl shows off her booty at the plastic surgery clinic where Trin works. But when heart-broken Jeremy Ritcie walks in the door requesting a complete make-over – and asking her for help choosing his new look – Trin knows she’s got the makings of a tabloid story any editor would kill for.

And now for something old!

This is one of the photos from my recent shoot. More coming once I have the CD... I need help choosing!

  1. Wow I'm the first to comment! Yay!! I love that honor!!

Great blurb, I loved it, what an interesting beginning. You seriously had me from the first line wondering what she was talking about! What a place to work to become a reporter, I love it, great insight, I'm sure lots of people are curious about the insides of those offices, I didn't realize I was until I began reading!

Great picture! Can't wait to see the other choices! It's going to be tough!

  2. Just about to log off and run to work but you're picture showed on my blog roll, and I just HAD to comment. Gorgeous. Love the smile and the jacket is stunning, like you!
I feel the same way as Jen. You had me hooked at the first line. I like her voice. Very real.

  3. I'm hooked, too! You have a great beginning there;)

  4. Aw, thank ladies! I have to say it was painful looking at all the photos of ME! For some reason my lip did this funny thing and it looked like I was snarling in a few! :) Anyway, thankfully the photog did a great job and there are few passable ones.

And thank you for the kind words on the extract! Far from polished, but I must say I do rather like the opening line...

  5. The new story idea sounds good, especially like the line 'Doesn’t seem like much to aspire to, being face down on the floor of the Tube, right?' Heeheehee. The name 'Trin Holland' reminds me of your name! Small similarities. :)

Your author pic is lovely. I bet that even when you get the full CD that this may be the one you choose - the first one, or the first one you are happy enough with, is usually the one that sticks in the mind. Gorgeous, m'dear!

  17. I really enjoyed this extract. You should be best pleased! I like your photo although I must say - I like the one on your blog too - it is more casual so I guess it depends on what you're going after. Wish I could come and do it. I'm doing a friend's here! yay.
We're going to the beach and drink first.

  18. Super blurb!! I have the hardest time with those. What a fun story to work with, too. And the excerpt is fun, too. Full of sass and humor. And your photo? Uh, what is old about it? You're gorgeous! Beautiful author photo.

  19. Love the story, can't wait to read the rest of it. Just know it's going to be funny and intriguing.

The photo looks wonderful. The color suits you. As for the lip thing, I think only you noticed that.

  32. You lot are too kind! Thank you for all your lovely words - on the blurb/ extract, and the photo.

I wanted the photo to be a bit more formal than the blog photo - something that can be used for promo purposes, etc. I'm still going to keep the blog photo as is, because I like it too!

The extract needs a lot of work but it was fun to kind of crank it out and see where it went! I'm enjoying getting to know the character.

  33. Love the blurb, Talli! I can't wait to read your book--your voice is just the kind that attracts me. :-)

    And lovely photo, as well!

  35. Yay, a picture. I can't wait to see more. I love how the blazer photographed. Good choice!

What a funny beginning. And I like the logline. If you need any "research", watch Dr. 90210 from the E Channel. I don't know if you've seen it, but the show will give you "ample" info.

  36. Your picture is gorgeous! You're going to make many people jealous. A published author and drop-dead gorgeous to boot.

I love the excerpt. It already has a fun voice and premise. Love it!

  39. Lovely witty extract, Talli - I hate those perky boobs myself.

Great photo - a lovely mixture of warmth and professional, will we see it in a bookshop in Dublin soon??
We'll be there with our hurls and helmets.

  40. Wonderful excerpt! And I like the picture. Both the one at the end of the post and your avatar one.

  41. You should've just entitled this Something New! You have a new book excerpt & a New picture. You photograph very well & look very authorly.

I like your extract [is that English] & your pacing is great & I want to read more. Descriptions are fine & the 1 about "they treat me like some piece of fat squished out of their thigh" is vivid.

Good working title for now. If you want to share more, feel free.

Are you allowed to post a chapter from The Hating Game?

  51. I'm sorry it took so long to reply. I've had quite a time trying to write today. But, I love the voice of your new MC. She quirky and blunt, and funny. I love personality like that. The plot sounds interesting... you don't give enough away so I'm dying to read on. Love the use of tits too.

And as for your new pics, they're lovely. You're really beautiful and I love the hair.

  52. The picture looks great and professional and I may just need to purchase a velvety blazer. ;) Also, really love the direction of your wip...the voice, the premise. I have a friend who worked for Take a Break, if you need research? She just recently took a different job (PR work), wanting to get out of London.

  53. You look absolutely gorgeous. Not that I ever doubted you would. if the other pictures are anything like this, choosing is going to be hell.

and I really loved your blurb. Would love to meet you MC someday- she sounds like someone I will get along with.

  56. Wow to both your first chapter and photo.
I won't go anywhere near you in RNA Conf. Nothing worse than standing next to a stunning blonde to look even more out of place.
As for first chapter, you grabbed my attention from the very first sentence. That is an amazing start to a book. Eyes wide open as you read the first sentence. And every paragraph was funny.

  57. Oh wow, more booty than RussellBrand? *raises eyebrow, is that possible? hehe. And the we're not even on Harley St... maybe I've been there? Love it! Excellento work. Looking forward to the rest. :)
