Writing Super-Foods

There's a collection of vital munchies and liquids that get me through my day -- writing or otherwise. I like to think of them as writing 'super-foods'. Each represents a particular phase on my writing day.

Coffee.

Of course, coffee. I start the morning energetic, ready to launch myself on my MS full steam ahead.

Bread.

Oh, I how I love bread. It's my mid-morning snack once the caffeine buzz wears off and I'm really kneading the heck out of my MS.

Nuts! When it's crunch time in the mid-afternoon and I need to buckle down and get my day's work done.

Cupcakes!

My sweet treat at the end of the day, once the hard work's done.

And finally... wine.

I can sit, sip, and let the day slip away.

What are your super foods? Happy Friday!

  2. I really don't eat much while I'm writing, unfortunately. Once I broke my coffee habit, it was just water from there on out.

Though I did put a hurting on a bag of pretzel M&Ms during the home stretch of my last MS... :)

In the evenings, though, beer me, baby!

  3. Coffee (iced or hot), chocolate anything, beer in summer and wine in winter.

  4. Just how i write...but mine goes this way..coffee in the morning, tea late afternoon then some nuts and wine in the early evening. Love it :-)

  5. I agree with all of those, but prefer tea to coffee. Definitely have to have almonds too.

  6. Coffee and chocolate for me =D

  7. Gunpowder green tea with sickening amounts of brown cane sugar and citrus juice. And vinegar crisps!

  8. Hot Tamales! Sorry, must pass on the coffee.

  9. Coffee and because I'm on a semi-diet kick now, I've been munching on these little pretzels I buy from Costco. I'm a salt addict.

  10. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a day of writing.

I start the day off with coffee, too. One bad habit is always making a full pot of coffee, then if my husband is out of town, I drink it all myself! Everyone say...wired!

  11. Ha. I'm with you on the bread and cupcakes. :)

  12. Mmmm... coffee and cupcakes! That sounds delicious.

    Happy Friday!

  13. It all sounds good to me!
Coffee to get the motor running and then carbs to keep it going...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can I start with coffee and then skip straight to the wine?

    Good choices!

  15. for me it's green tea and red tea. and energy drinks but I'm trying to quit that habit!

people in Okinawa eat random kinds of nuts every day - not much but every day - and they are known to be world's most healthy (and long-living) society, so good choice :) However, they don't usually drink any alcohol on Okinawa hahah :)

  16. Strong cappuccino.

    CHOCOLATE.

    WINE.

And BLOODY MARYS (veggie version - secret ingredients - splash of lemon and dry sherry). Sigh.

    :-)

    Take care

  17. Exchange the cupcake for a piece of chocolate and you have my day, too.

  18. Hmm. Bread's definitely a winner for me too.

What else? Tea. Usually chamomile or honey/mango. French Fancies, other little cakes. Definitely a nice cold drink, whether it's flavoured water or Pimms and lemonade.

Guess those are my super-foods. This was such a fun post idea!

  19. Talli,
What kind of bread do you like--whole wheat, white, rye? What about croissants.

Great that you eat nuts during the day for protein.

I have to have my jasmine green tea w/ lemon. I also make sure I have cinnamon raisin toast slathered w/ VCO [virgin coconut oil] because it's the best oil for you.

  20. I am partial to wine and coffee too, and bread, I guess - for the quick "while writing" meals. I must admit a more than slight addiction to writer's little chocolate, though... And bubble gum! Always!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nice!

Scary thought but I don't drink coffee. I am however rather addicted to Chai & Earl Grey tea so I think that counts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. licorice allsorts.
    And Baileys for love scenes....

  23. I think I may be the only writer on the face of the earth who doesn't drink coffee. It's not that I don't like it, I just don't love it enough to take the time to pay and make for it. Although every now and again I do have this cappucino urge.

What gets me going is cheese, guacamole, apples, and trail mix. Yum!

  24. No coffee here either. Diet Coke, (ohh yeah, but not before noon) and maybe some popcorn. LOVE chocolate, but really ought to limit the intake.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I go in the other direction and try to not bother with the middle stuff too much.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Coffee, nuts and ice cream!!!! Sometimes I also have pepperoni pizza...I know my hips are getting bigger! Hahaha! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Any day that doesn't start with coffee is unthinkable. Later, I drink iced green tea. My new day-over reward snack is a banana with just a tiny (like quarter cup) of vanilla ice cream. Yum.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Any meals? I have a hard time eating while writing but then I make up for it later! Now to go through all your 30 commenters to see what THEY eat while writing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Coffee, definitely! When I'm really hungry but it's not mealtime, nuts seem to do the trick. And some candy never hurts, either. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL. What a great post.

For me it's coffee, tic-tacs, sandwiches, muffins, and crisps. A nice healthy mixture!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tea with honey and milk. I drink far too much of the stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Like the pictures.

I save my wine for evenings. If I sipped the day away, I'd be a mess!

Sipping coffee all morning keeps me going.

    ReplyDelete
  33. add: berries n citrus fruits ;)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  40. At the moment it is teeny tiny sweet tomatoes and plums from a special tree of my neighbours. Bottled water, Frappe, wine, Greek salad and Greek yoghurt and honey. It is so hot I do not even feel like chocolate today!

Your cupcake looks tempting though ;0

  41. all of these things make me absolutely GIDDY with creativity.

    that, and crystal meth.

    ah yes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. All of the above plus a little pate and cheese and I'm good to go!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sounds like my kind of diet.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Chocolate is top of my list followed by Morning Coffee biscuits which I have recently rediscovered... they have a lovely vanilla flavour and they remind me of my childhood.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wine and coffee! That would kill me without a doubt! I just stick to a cuppa and biscuits. Snow white!

  46. You nailed me super foods?! I knew we had to be sisters, we just simply have too much in common :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Definately wine in the morning and coffee at night. No wait, the other way around. I try to eat healthy throughout the day, but am partial to chocolate covered pretzels with peanut butter in the middle.

  51. I'm with you regarding the coffee! And I like to sweet myself up with a piece of frozen chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Supper foods, include mountain dew for staying in place energy, and jerky or star-burst for snacks, though the bread I've done a time or two- specially Hawaiian sweet rolls.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm rather partial to chocolate-covered espresso beans, which probably explains why I have to run at least three miles each day.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love cupcakes! And gummy types of candy. And also Vitamin Water, which I'm sort of convinced will give me cancer...
