Della Says: OMG! by Keris Stainton

I was so happy when I won a copy of this book on Love Reading! I follow author Keris Stainton on Twitter and her updates are always humorous and quirky, so I couldn't wait to see what her writing was like.

I wasn't disappointed. I devoured Della Says: OMG! in a few hours, unable to stop for a second.

Here's the synopsis:

Della’s over the moon when she kisses her long-standing crush at a party – but then she discovers her diary has disappeared... When scans of embarrassing pages are sent to her mobile and appear on Facebook, Della’s distraught – how can she enjoy her first proper romance when someone, somewhere, knows all her deepest, darkest secrets?

What a great concept! Can you imagine your diary disappearing, only to appear on Facebook?

But for me the real strength of this book is Della. She's a smart, forthright teenager I couldn't help but connect with -- and giggle along with some of her discoveries (like when she finds out men have nipples, too!). She deals with all the ups and downs of adolescence, but not in the whingy way that has turned me off some YA protagonists. I loved seeing her relationship with Dan develop and grow despite the difficulties they faced. I wish I had a Dan growing up!

For anyone who writes YA and is looking for a great example to study, this is it!

  8. It sounds like a great book to me; I've been reading a few light hearted books recently instead of the usual paranormal ones.

  13. The book sounds interesting! I'd be mortified if my journal showed up online. I accidentally left mine in a coffeehouse once, and when I went back to get it I felt sure that the baristas were giving each other knowing looks.

  15. My journal is pretty boring. I just write observations and stuff. I don't even put names in there. So if someone found it entertaining enough, yay for them.

Don't you just love devouring books in a few hours??

  22. Lovely review Talli and Della seems so innocent...she's probably a late bloomer as well which is great , i was too. Yeah i can't imagine my diary and all my dirty laundry displayed on Facebook, it would be devastating.

  25. That sounds really good.

When I was around 14, my friends and I wrote in a diary of sorts that got stolen by some mean girls. What a stressful time until they gave it back. That was before FB!

  36. This book sounds like so much fun, and I'm definitely going to wrangle myself a copy as soon as I have money again! :(

Have you ever seen 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' (new-ish movie)? Something about your review of this book makes me think the tone/general fun-ness of the book will be very similar to 'Angus', which I loved!
