I've done a slew of Sweet Sunday posts so I thought I'd do a salty one!
Ah, chips. Best when they're steaming hot, with a hint of potato peel and a sprinkle of vinegar. When it's a cold winter's day and you duck into the warmth of a pub, they're the perfect before-dinner treat.
Chunky with some garlic mayo on the side... heaven.
Happy Sunday!
I sure feel like a dummy! I didn't know the Brits' chips were the same as French fries. I just thought it was normal chips. So what's your name for what I call chips? I need to brush up on my British lingo!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday, Talli! I hope the weather is still beautiful for you!!! (It's pouring rain here.)
Lovely chips, also if you ever come to Dublin, go to Howth and Beshoffs sell delicious fish n chips, sit on a bench, it's a fishing port and watch the boats and world go by, I might even do that today !!
ReplyDeleteI could live off any kind of chip, British or otherwise.
ReplyDelete*sigh* Which is why I have these stubborn 10 lbs hanging around!
I've not had chips done British style. Sound wonderful. On this side of the pond we just slather them with catsup. Or, like my husband, dip 'em in mustard.
ReplyDeleteAlas I've given them up. I had to choose between them and dessert and I chose dessert.
ReplyDeleteI slather my fries in salt & catsup as well.
ReplyDeleteNever thought about putting vinegar on my chips.
ReplyDeleteOkay, vinegar on your chips? And garlic mayo on the side? Never had it. But I definitely want to try it!

Laura, french fries are chips here. American chips we call crisps! It's all so confusing. And SO good!
ReplyDeleteBrigid, if I ever get myself to Dublin, I will have to get some chips there!
And people, you're scaring me! No vinegar on your chips?! What?!
...a spritz of vinegar on fries...one taste and ketchup is outta sight, outta mind:)
ReplyDeleteGarlic mayo. . . . Mmmmmmm. . .
ReplyDeleteOk now you've made me hungry for french fries, I mean chips, at 7:15 am. Not fair Talli!! :)
Your description makes me want to go out and buy French fries. I've never had them with garlic mayo before, but that sounds really good! Unfortunately, the nearest places I can buy fries from are either McDonald's (whose fries make me gulp down very large sodas afterwards because they're so salty) or the frozen foods section at the grocery store (which make me feel like I'm chewing on frozen cardboard, even after I heat them up).
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great, except for the vinegar part. Since it's just a sprinkle that would probably add a little something special.

Now you're talking!!
ReplyDeleteChips - not too greasy but a little bit squidy - with cripsy bits - plenty of salt and vinegar and a side order of gherkin or pickled onion.
Yum!
None of this mayo stuff tho!
:-)
Take care

Sounds absolutely delish. Garlic mayo?? My husband will be ready to pack his bags and head to London when I tell him that!
ReplyDeleteNow I really want chips *harumph* with lots of vinegar though because that's how I roll.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday to you too :~D
I'm hungry already, but now, instead of eating a good breakfast, I'm tempted to head to McDonalds for some hot, salty french fries. Mmmm...
ReplyDeleteBest chips ever--served with curry dip at a British pub in California. Yes, let's have a great cultural mash-up!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, chips.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh, they look good - and any kind of mayo will do it for me.
ReplyDeleteYummy! I don't eat them fried very often (for obvious reasons) but they're so good. We have a ff stand in town that makes the best ones in the summer! Can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteOh, now you've done it. I must have some. Do you know how many hours on the tread desk this means?
ReplyDeleteSorry to jump-start the cravings, but they're just sooo goood!
ReplyDeleteOh, you so had me until you mentioned the mayo ;)
ReplyDeleteI like them in ranch dressing, which is not too far from garlic mayo.
ReplyDeleteOooh, lots of malt vinegar on those fries, please.
ReplyDeleteChips and crisps are delicious!!! I love the wording :)
ReplyDeleteI don't use condiments on my chips, I like them with salt alone... YUM!
Just ketchup for me. Yum!!
ReplyDeleteSo good... yet sooooo bad for me! LOL.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love them with fry sauce--that weird Western US hybrid of ketchup, mayo, and Thousand Island dressing.
Should pictures be able to make people salivate quite so quickly? I was dribbling within nano-seconds.
ReplyDeleteYum, Talli. I'll take an order over here. *waves*
ReplyDelete*drools*
ReplyDeleteMmmm - I love vinegar & fries. Not to common here in the US, but I spent my summers in Canada where vinegar was plentiful at hamburger joints. Yum yum yum.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness I need some now.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm reading this after dinner or I'd be snacking right now. :) I love the hint of potato peel - perfect!
ReplyDeleteThose look soooo good! I've had them with ranch dressing but never mayo and not mayo with garlic although that does sound tasty.
ReplyDeleteAmericans eat them with plenty of salt [usually too much] & ketchup. Vinegar would have to be added to homemade fries, I mean chips! :)
Garlic mayo? I didn't realize chips are almost as culturally different, tweaked in unique ways, like the spelling of words. Canadians and Brits too, I believe, like "ou" in favourite and colour, and Americans prefer 's' over 'z', but mayo is not usually a side order with fries, at least not in my province. And then there is Quebec, famous for it's Poutine. But not a dish known in France.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there are sweet potato fries. Yum..Now I am craving the salty!
Man I miss chips...and chicken kebabs with garlic mayo. yumm!!!
ReplyDeleteYum!!!!!!!
