Good Eats

Like many authors I know, thoughts of food consume almost as much of my head-space as writing (and wine). Many of us are familiar with Goodreads, the reading website that allows us to add new books and to track what we've read.

Well, my friends, I've discovered a market gap:  Goodeats! Bakers could upload photos and blurbs about their fabulous creations, and we could add them to our 'to-eat' pile. I'm salivating thinking about it now.

Imagine this:

For Blueberry Betsy, life was everything she'd dreamed: a warm, gooey topping and a crunchy base. But when Clotted Cream came too close, everything changed. Suddenly, Betsy had to be devoured -- and quickly.

'A tantalisingly sweet creation that I couldn't stop eating. If you like Apple Crumble, then you'll adore this.'

Picture a whole site chock full of wonderful foodie descriptions! Just had a yummy pretzel? Give it a rating and put it on your 'eaten' list. Fancy chicken tonight? Browse the best dishes out there and read the reviews. It would also be a handy-dandy way to keep track of everything you've eaten and to remember all your favourites.

What do you think? Brilliant, eh? Next up: Goodwines.

What would be on your to-eat list?

  1. Mmm. I could definitely go for Goodeats. Don't ask me to make up my mind about what should be on there, though - I'd be here all day!

I like the sound of Goodwines, too…

  7. Brilliant idea:-) Not for the weight-conscious I feel, though I suppose you could always have a melange of bush berries interlaced with vine fruits and tree proliferations.

  8. Ha! Fantastic idea.

The pork loin luxuriated in the oven. She was so close to moving in to a plate with some roasted asparagus when suddenly she met a pumpkin compote! His mellow autumn tones, his cinnamon-and-clove spices...she could not resist! But it's nearly time to come out of the oven...

"If you like Thanksgiving ham and sweet potatoes, you'll LOVE this pork loin with pumpkin compote. This is dish you'll want hot and fresh every night!"

Ahhh now I really *want* this to be a real thing!

  10. I could really get stuck into some authentic Spanish tapas. And to do it, I'd have to spend a good afternoon, moving into evening, in a bar somewhere. Lets go for Madrid. Crack out the Rioja!

  13. This is the kind of idea that's so good, you should have trade marketed it before going public. Now someone has probably registered the domain name already.

  14. Awesome idea! I'm not sure what would be on my list. I'll have to think about that one...

  17. Oh my goodness. What wouldn't be on my list, lol. On my list I'd have veggie lasagna, chinese food, farmers cheese pierogis, any kind of cheesecake made, praline pecan ice cream, and cheesecake ice cream. This is a wish list, right? These are all favorites I don't get to enjoy very often.

  24. Heheee, CUTE idea. Love it. It would make me way too hungry, though! I need encouragement to exercise to counteract sitting around at the computer--not eating! LOL Could we start up a site for exercises instead? No? Somehow, I don't think that would be as popular...

  34. Aw, man... this would be SO dangerous for me! Imagine all the varieties of pecan pie I could try!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd put cupcakes on my list, especially chocolate ones, mmmmm.... Or maybe brownie sundaes or fudge or basically anything with chocolate in it (except mint chocolate). I think I'd like to just live in a bakery.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This idea? Epic! I daren't add things to my 'to eat pile' else I never get rid of the beer belly :)

  37. Excellent idea, Talli. But will we be able to maintain our diets?

    Looking forward to your GoodWines!

  38. As long as there is chocolate, although I'm now on to the 70% plus cocoa content - only way to stop overeating!

  42. A great idea, Talli! I do know that coffee would be on the list for the morning portion of the day! The rest will require more thought! ;)

  46. I'm read for a goodwines site. And while we're at it, how about a goodcoffee too?

  47. Such a clever idea. I think we would all benefit from a Goodeats! I've eaten some crazy dishes (kangaroo, duck, snake, and drunk shrimp to name a few), but there are definitely some foods I really want to try! I would definitely add Alligator, Deer, Shark Caviar and Eggnog to my to-be-eaten list.
