Ten for Tuesday: What I Learned on My Vacation

Happy Tuesday!

First of all, I'm sorry for not getting around to everyone's blogs yesterday! I've been having loads of issues with BL**DY BLOGGER and then I was off to book launch last night, so there wasn't much blogging booty going on yesterday, I'm afraid. But! It's a new day, I'm only marginally hung over, so I expect to be able to blog with the best of them (or at least not the worst) today.

Vacations are a time of reflection, so here's what I learned!

1. I love love LOVE my little Android phone. I love it so much I I'm going to design a special pillow for it so it can sleep serenely beside me.

2. I can't NOT blog. Or Tweet. This is where my Android phone and all its wonderful apps came in handy. I loved having the connection to my online friends!

3. It's not possible to eat too many mussels with garlic butter. I had four buckets and I could have had more. Many more.

4. Coconut cream pie needs to be adopted world-wide. It's awesome!

5. Square-dancing rocks. Especially when it's at a ceilidh, to live fiddle and piano music (a Cape Breton tradition) and even more so when you have no idea what you're doing!

6. There's no place like home. Really.

7. My part of the world is simply GORGEOUS. I forgot just how lovely it is!

8. It's a small world! Upon arriving at the Halifax Airport, who do I run into but the lovely blogger Jan Morrison! Sadly I did not know it was her -- I looked at her, thought she resembled Jan, but then told myself not to be crazy. But it was! Nice to see you in real life, Jan.

9. Jet-lag sucks. But wine helps.

10. I really really love London!

So there you have it! Have a fab Tuesday, everyone!

  3. I love that list and am now going to have to look up that phone as I desperately need to update my brick-like one.

  4. So . . . what were you thinking staring out to the blue water of the ocean?

  5. I love my phone... without I would not be very happy. I second you on the fancy pillow next to the bedside, having it charging on the side table just isn't enough.

OMG I love that you got to see Jan, even though you didn't recognize her! How exciting that must have been! Too bad you weren't confident enough to say hello! I don't blame you, don't want them thinking you're a total nutcase!!!

  13. Jet Lag does suck Big Time! But as you say wine helps. Great list, but the coconut pie wouldn't be a fan allergic to coconut!

  14. I love coconut cream pie! And the mussels with garlic omigosh I am drooling big time right now. I'm glad you posted your comment on my blog and sorry it ate the really long one, you should email me because I want to know what it was! I'm leaving on vacation next week and hope I come back relaxed. Pretty sure I won't get any mussels with garlic however. Dang it.

  22. YES to the Android pillow and YES to coconut cream pie. I now have a raging sweet tooth no thanks to you. ;]

As wonderful as home may be, there are few things more enjoyable than traveling.

    Have a fantastic week!

  23. I'm glad you had a great time! Sounds fabulous, especially the square dancing hehe and coconut cream pie, I've never tried it but I'm sure I'd love it!

  24. Well then Talli may the Droid be with you.
I had mussels today with sour cream, its safe to say I will not be trying them again in a while.
Have fun and yep we love LONDON Town

  25. You ran into a blog buddy at the airport?? That is so cool. I admit to scanning shopping malls and airports, on the off-chance one face in the crowd resembles a profile pic I'm familiar with. But sadly, I still haven't actually recognized anyone.

    Loved your list. Too funny!!

  26. Loved your list. Yay for great vacations and bringing back a bit of home.
    Cheers~

  27. Great list -- including the Android phone. I don't know how I survived without mine. Seriously. I tweet while I wait in the grocery line now. Unbelievable.

  28. Square dancing is fun. I wonder what would happen if I tried it at a Chicago nightclub. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Right, so I've just eaten chicken, bacon, bread and cheesecake. I thought I'd never eat again. But then I read the words 'mussels with garlic butter' and now? Craving beyond belief.

So thank you, Talli. Thank you for making me crave mussels with garlic butter, which I cannot have. :-(

You sound like you've hit that perfect balance between having at amazing time at the old home and being happy to be back in the new(ish) home! Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hehe! Sorry to create any food craving! But those mussels were SO good!

Oh - Em-Musing: I was thinking something along the lines of 'it's good to be home!'

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bummer you didn't recognize Jan!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Glad you had a nice break. I swore I'd leave my computer alone while visiting friends but that lasted for maybe a few hours...

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is an interesting list. By the way, I hope you have a nice case for your Android. It will feel appreciated, look cool & will be protected!

Coconut cream pie is good but heavy! A little goes a looooong way.

Your part of the world certainly looks gorgeous. But you write like you're happy to be back in the heart of bustling London.

  34. I had alot of trouble with a phone a few months ago so bought an Iphone, I like it to a point but I think it is over rated.

    Loved your post.

  35. Awwww although I think that androids are relations of C3PO, I'm very glad you have one in phone form! :-) I hope you find it a lovely little silk pillow and feed it lots of special posh treats! Androids are not just for holidays, they're for life (or until it needs an upgrade)! :-)

    WELCOME BAAAAAAAACK!!!

    Take care

  36. I'm with you on the mussels in garlic ... not so much on the coconut cream pie ;-j

  37. Hi Dolly! So nice to have made your list. I don't think people get how very surreal it is to see someone in real life that you feel you know pretty well in the blogosphere. I was fairly certain it was you but I felt it would be just kind of weird to approach you as a blog pal when you were floating along with your family and buds! At any rate IT WAS SWELL TO SEE YOU and yes Nova Scotia is divine - I never get sick of it but I could use a week or two in London!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I absolutely want to go square dancing with you sometime. That would be so cool. I'd also like to know which android phone you've got because I got so frustrated not being able to tweet or blog on holiday earlier this year that I never intend for that to happen again.

  39. Welcome home! Walking through your own front door is the best bit isn't it? I haven't heard of an Android phone. Not sure what planet I've been living on. Sounds like I might be missing out!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Welcome home! Glad to have you back! And I love the "no place like home" but stil "I love london" - it's exactly how I feel, living away from home!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ah yes, the beauty of travelling is getting to appreciate home more :)
    Welcome back

    ReplyDelete
  42. I feel the same way about my iPhone. And mussels with garlic butter. And Nova Scotia, such a beautiful place. And home. And I'm sure I'd love London, too - haven't been there yet :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love my little android phone too. They're so fun, aren't they! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's so funny that you saw Jan! :)

No matter how good the vacation is, there's nothing quite like coming home :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yay for good vacations!!! And great list. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Welcome back! I love love love love mussels with garlic butter. Never tried coconut cream pie but I'll support your campaign to get it adopted worldwide so that I can give it a go.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Coconut cream pie should be adopted world-wide! In fact, I think I should make a mock one with Jello coconut pudding right now! :P Welcome back!

  52. You don't need a holiday, you need time in twitter rehab. Maybe we could go together. They might confiscate our smartphones though.

  54. love your lessons! When i get to either coast I eat sea food sea food sea food--and I LOVE that you ran into Jan! (I'm jealous, actually--I was to sit down to a cuppa with Jan... (cuppa tea versus cuppa margaritas is dependent on whether it is before or after noon)
