Bedroom Moves

Happy Monday! Yay, I'm still editing (can you hear the joy in my voice? Can you? CAN YOU?). But good news, I'm going to be done this round on Wednesday. Phew -- I almost want to kill off my main character and just be done with the whole thing!

Anyway, I've been a bit of a bad bloggery blogging blogger lately but hand on weary heart, I promise I'll be better soon. And since the little video thingy I was planning to post doesn't seem to be working, well, I leave you with this snippet from a recent conversation with Mr TR.

6 a.m., in bed:

Me: *click click click on my smartphone*

Mr TR (grumpily): What the hell are you doing?

Me: Nothing!

Mr TR: Put the phone away and go back to sleep.

Me: Just let me check my Amazon sales rank...

Ah yes, the glamorous life of a writer...

  2. Hahaha. Well, I think we can all understand your side of the bed! ;-)

  3. Laugh! Talli you sales are doing very well...and I'm trying to catch you up and falling way way behind and out of sight....! Hugs xx

  4. LOL Now that you've posted this I don't feel so bad about admitting that when I wake up in the morning I usually grab my Droid off the bedside table before my feet even touch the floor.

  5. Hehe. Should I be worried that I already check comment numbers?

  6. If you were no. 1 on Amazon, he'd probably run for a bottle of champagne! Happy editing.

  7. :) Don't kill off your main character.

And unless you're on a dealbreaker deadline, take a step back for a minute or two.

  8. Girl!! I do the exact same thing when my DH gets up at 5:30 and goes to work. He's always telling me to go back to bed, so I wait until I hear the shower running to check my sales:)) Have fun editing!!

  9. I bet you couldn't get back to sleep . . .

  10. You need an alarm clock that wakes you up at six with, "You current amazon sales rank is..." That would be cool. Or, for me, "Your coffee will be ready in five seconds... four, three, two, one. NOW GET UP!"

  11. LOL! I think the fact that you have an Amazon sales rank to check is damn awesome!

  12. I'm sure your sales are doing great! They should be as I love your book! I'm a very sloooow reader, but I love that The Hating Game is so fast paced! I just finished the part with Mattie's dancing lesson. Must get back now...

  13. Hi Talli .. your numbers will be going up by one - my list to purchase has reached the top of the list .. looking forward to the read .... and quite frankly I'm not surprised Mr TR is grumpy!

Cheers and here comes Wednesday .. Hilary

  14. I suppose it makes a nice change for him from 'I must get this idea down on paper' :)

And have some wine!! Yay!! Take care xx

  17. Hee hee! That's exactly what I would be doing, too. I'd say judging by your stats that you are doing rather well. :)

  18. Ah editing. My happy place! *ducks* I know, I know, I'm odd. My hubby tells me I should have been an editor. He's probably right.

And ah yes, the writer's life, so glamorous. I've been known to check my Facebook fan page and Goodreads author pages in the wee hours of the night as well. ;)

  19. Ah editing. I enjoy it, but after awhile it just becomes too overwhelming. :)

  20. So funny (the conversation with Mr TR).

Well done re your editing. Keep going. ;-)

  21. Strangely enough, it's NOT joy I'm hearing in your voice... :)

    Good luck with those edits!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I definitely can hear joy and excitement in your voice. Compared with artists, writers definitely have the more glamorous life. To begin with, there is the cleaner workspace...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hope the edits are going well. To be fair, if I get onto Amazon, I'd be checking almost constantly :P

  24. At least you made me smile, I have just found out that the book I self published 3 years ago was being sold on Ebay with a different and out of date IBSN NUMBER, The IBSN office seems to think somone has republished my book without my permission.I have an email address to get in touch with tomorrow.Ebay don't want to know.

    Any way you have fun,
    Yvonne.

  25. If I take my iPad to bed, it's just to read!

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOL. My phone is the first thing I grab in the morning. I must look at emails and everything while still in bed!

  27. Pretty exciting to have an Amazon Sales Rank to check!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I can hear the joy, I can feel it...as I murder my laptop trying to finish formatting my book....aaaargh! Nice to hear your blogging voice and know your main character hasnt killed you off. Hang in there.
ooops...gotta run and check my stats.....

  29. Edits can be murder on an author. I feel your pain. But hang in there! Wednesday is close.

And, yeah, I understand the need to check your book's status. ;)

  30. I've never even looked at my rankings, but I have played Scrabble on my cell phone in bed.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If you do happen to kill off your main character, make sure you've got an alibi.

    ReplyDelete
  32. And ten minutes later...

Mr. TR: Are you still checking yours sales ranking?

    ReplyDelete
  33. How cute! Thanks for sharing. I don't even check my ranking any more~ too depressing. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I had to stop obsessing over the rank - largely because I write and publish poetry and most of all will not be widely read until this life manages to kill me. insofar I am winning that front.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I sure can relate, Talli. I think because I'm a new blogger, I'm more obsessed with checking my stats! I get the biggest thrill when I see that someone from a far away country has visited my site! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's behind in blogging. Love your post.

    ReplyDelete
  36. hehe it's an obsession! One worth having, though ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. hehe, good on you! Bloggy scarceness is understandable. My hubby checks info on his phone at midnight - now that's disruptive! I wait till I've had a cup of tea :) Sue

  38. You have full sympathies from me! :D

And good luck on your editing!

    ReplyDelete
  39. My husband has totally caught me on the phone at 2am. He thinks I'm psychotic bc who would be emailing me then. Um, other psychotic people (and my British friends)!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ha, you have me laughing. 6 am Amazon sales ranking check. Thanks for letting me know what I can look forward to.

I really need to be paid to write full-time or have my husband support me. Now that my blog is about 570, I just can't keep up. I've lost control. It's been 48 hours since I've gone through Facebook. I'm in a panic!

While you're editing, I'm editing a short story and have started querying my manuscript. So, yeah, I'm clicking my e-mail every five seconds. I feel like weeping every two seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL! Too funny. There are many days when I check email before even saying "good morning" to my husband first. Not sure if I like this 21st Century very much...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yikes. Sounds like I definitely have trouble ahead. I'm already clicking on the phone for blogger and texting... imagine what happens after I sell my book.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Only 1 more day of editing. Think of it this way -- your audience is looking forward to reading it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hahaha oh I can't wait to be doing that!

Completely sympathize with your urge to kill off your main character and just be rid of your edits. Oh, woes.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Revising and editing are so hard. Sometimes I'm trying to fix a problem that just seems impossible to fix!

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are too funny. I am ALWAYS clicking the keyboard in bed.

No response from my partner anymore, just rolls over.

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL, I was thinking something along the lines of what Old Kitty said.

    Have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  48. hahaha...and what was the rank?

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL, this sounds like something I would do!

I wanted to let you know that although I've tried several times to be a new follower, something about my computer won't let me join anyone's networked blogs. :( I wish there were another way I could publicly say I love the voice of your posts. Well, besides what I just wrote in this comment!

    Michelle

    P.S. I've left a response to your comment on Alexia's site, http://alexiachamberlynn.blogspot.com/2011/07/using-amazon-to-optimize-book-sales.html.

  50. Up until a few months ago I swore we'd never do that but somehow we've morphed into people that bring their laptops to bed on Saturday mornings! There's just no escaping...
