Ten for Tuesday: Naw...

I was all set to do a tag, but then I changed my mind. Then, I was going to do a Ten for Tuesday as per usual, but I couldn't drum up the energy for ten things! In my current listless state, I'd like to talk about footballers.

Yes, footballers. Those men who run around, swatting each other on the arse, shouting at refs and baring their chest hair in a most unattractive way when they manage to kick a stoopid little ball into a very very large net. What an accomplishment! If someone would like to pay me a zillion pounds to run around on a field each night, please feel free. I'll even throw in a little chest hair, no extra cost!

Even worse are their antics off the field, when they do the tangerine tango with their wife/ mistress/ random girl/ pet/ club owner and it's splashed all over every newspaper -- and even becomes news in the bloody House of Commons! Is this how low we've all stooped? Are our own lives that boring we must live vicariously through footballers? (I won't answer that.)

Phew -- rant over. Just remind me of footballers next time I need to stir some ire! And oh yes, happy Tuesday!

Tell me, am I wrong? Should I respect footballers and their hairy-chested, shouty ways?

And PS - Yes, I am well aware of the irony of posting loads of stereotypes above a post where I rant about stereotypes! Maybe I should submit this piece to The Daily Mail. Hm...

  2. I'll be brave and admit it, I'm an avid Liverpool supporter. I respect footballers for their prowess on the field, and for appearing on the back pages of the newspapers. Those that appear on the front pages annoy me because they detract from the sport and demonstrate that, in the main, yes they are overpaid idiots. I'm just grateful that the last couple of fools weren't any of 'ours' :)

  3. Wait, footballers aren't paid to act like louts and get caught with prostitutes?

  4. To be fair most footballers are hairless as a piece of fruit. Mr Giggs is one of the few not to go for the full body wax.

  5. I will admit to being a football fan. Well, okay, I have a season ticket at Burnley, but you get my drift.

I do get so annoyed by these overpaid morons though. And for our government to have nothing more important to think about? I despair.

  7. Happy Tuesday Talli!! Now to explain the off-side rule..!

:-) What annoys me more is when Spurs are playing home DURING commuting hours and my trains are forced not only to stop near white hart lane but to be even more jam packed with their supporters!!

    Come on you Spurs!

    Take care

  8. You'd be smashing in the 'Daily Mail,' Talli. :)

  9. That's a great idea -- send it in to the Daily Mail. Make sure it goes to the sport section. Watch your email fill up w/ rants & raves!

By the way, I prefer the world's version of football a lot more than American football.

  10. You are too funny. After reading the post, I saw baseball players. :) Actually, men in general. God help us.

  11. Your footballers aren't nearly as bad as our American footballers.

  12. LOL! I don't think they'll stop being overpaid until we refuse to watch them on TV or in the stands.

  13. I could not agree with you more, Talli. Who cares what they get up to on or off the pitch?

  14. I'd have to agree... Here in the US is the same with EVERY SPORT. Football, basketball, baseball, hockey...

IT's ridiculous what that get paid. NO and mean NO sports figure is worth the millions they get to play a silly sport. Not even the President of worldwide companies get paid this much and they are brilliant businessmen.

I blame this on all the "stupid" individuals that PAY astronomical amounts of money to buy tickets to these games. Fans will pay and DO anything for their sports team.

  15. nope, couldn't give a flying rat's bum about anything to do with football, footballers... anything to so with any of it really. What is the world coming to when it's the house of commons and RADIO 4 deep in discussion about such things?!
    Yuk!

PS I have been tagged soooo many times now that I'm tempted to get a doctor's note to let me off :)

  16. Nope, I think you should keep your opinion of them as is! This is how I feel about American football as well. When my dad first explained the rules to me I was baffled by how stupid and complicated it was. "So you get that funny shaped ball from this line to that line?" The stupid game is more about rule manipulation than it is about any sort of skill. That's why I like gymnastics--you have to actually have skill, and I never see gymnasts in the news doing stupid things.

  17. you're so funny. And I know you're well aware that it's practically the exact same way across the pond~ :D

  18. What I still can't understand is how much those guys are paid! LOL...

  19. Not sure how you felt after your rant - but I hope you're smiling like I am - that was fun! :)

  20. Just stay away from the Daily Mail....
    They're bastards. I assure you....

  21. Haha, I've never met a footballer, but it doesn't sound like I want to!

  22. A fabulous footballer just won on Dancing With The Stars! You would like him as he's a great dancer and good to his mum, not to mention he doesn't have chest hair!
Hines is not the typical footballer and you must be talking about what we'd call soccer. If they're rude, big mouths, I don't like them no matter what they do! BTW, I tried to comment on your last story (very funny) to tell you how I bought a rain bonnet for my mother, and the girl gave me a funny look cause she thought it was for me. Julie

  23. Happy Ranting, Happy Tuesday. We've got Rugby World Cup coming in a few months - can't get away from it on this side of the ditch either.

  24. Couldn't agree more - and fortunately I'm married to a man totally uninterested in fotball. As for the media - what sad little lives they portray sometimes.

  25. At least they have nice legs and sexy calendars...

  26. Respect-maybe not.
    Be entertained by? yes.

I admire their skill and I love all the hoopla that surrounds a match. I'd agree that their love lives are a bit much.

  27. Futbol (as it is called down here in Mexico) is a religion. I think a game is the only excuse to miss church. I'm not quite sure if futbollers are cheating men down here but I think they get paid lots of money.

  28. Ah, football, or as we call it on this side of the pond, soccer.

In a recent blog I noted that it's not a real sport anyway. I never get why it's followed by so many people.... let alone why fans will kill each other over it.
