Smelly Animals

Why, it's Monday! How did that happen?

I've got my revisions back and after seven hours spent staring at the screen, going: 'How can I make that work?', my brain is fried. So I did what I usually do for inspiration: I went on Twitter and asked what I should blog about today. And I must thank @InTheseHeels for providing the inspiration of smelly animals. It's timely, too, seeing as how I have a paragraph about a stinky guinea pig in Willow.

Without further ado...

‘Take that, you disgusting rodent,’ Jay Bellamy growled, pouring a fresh handful of sawdust over the world’s smelliest guinea pig. He smirked as the animal tried in vain to shake off the flakes. Bunny – just why his mother had named her guinea pig Bunny was beyond him; if she wanted a rabbit she should have got one! – was the bane of his already horrifying existence. It was bad enough having to move back in with his mother in Milton Keynes, but when you had to share your room with a stinking, chubby guinea pig, too . . . ugh.

Don't you just love a malodorous rodent?

On Bad Blogger Day (Friday!), I was on the Minxes of Romance, talking about book promotion. Check it out if you have a chance!

  3. From the rodent's point of view, why should he have to share space with that annoying two legged creature?

  4. Uh oh, sounds like you're having too much fun w/ those revisions!

I've only seen guinea pigs in pet stores & they look very cute. But they're in glass cages so I can't smell anything. Cedarwood chips would be a nice addition!

  8. I used to keep guinea pigs, but they never smelled - they lived outdoors on grass, so didn't really get the chance. Our pet rats, on the other hand, they used to pong a bit, being male. And, forget rodents, wet dogs smell like nothing on earth!

Thanks for giving me a good laugh (and reminding me of good times).

  10. Hah, I once DID share my room with a smelly guinea pig...my classroom! UGH! It was the worst decision I made as a classroom teacher to allow my students to get attached to that disgusting thing! UGH! My classroom was close to the office and even when I did clean out his cage, the smell permeated to the principal until she'd had enough...I was glad becuase I could blame having to get rid of him on her!

  12. I wouldn't know. Wasn't allowed to have pets with fur or hair or feathers growing up. Allergies in the family, but a fun post, nonetheless! Glad I stumbled upon your blog. :)

  13. Oh, those poor animals in cages... they can't help being stinky... we'd be stinky too, if not for the indoor plumbing...

  14. I'm glad that you're having fun. Even with smelly animals around :)

  15. Poor Jeremy. He'll get over it I'm sure. When his mother throws him out for saying bad things to Bunny.

  16. Your poor character, I hate anything vaguely rodent like. Loved the extract.

  17. Love the idea about the guinea pigs. My sister once asked me to look after hers and it ended up staying at my house for 6 months, needless to say I wasn't sad to see it go.

  26. Smelly animals...love it! Thus why I have kitties. The only thing that stinks is their litter boxes. Ugh. But that is the price you pay to have a pet, right? Odor.
    Have a great week, Talli!

  34. I've never had a guinea pig, but I'm feeling a little sorry for poor Bunny being harassed at Jay's hands :(

  35. LOL, what an interesting blog topic. I had visions of skunks and pigs before I read your post.
    : )

  36. I love rodents! Once had a white rat and hid it from my mom because she gags every time she sees vermin. She discovered it in the basement and much gagging ensued. And a two month grounding. Booo. :( Great excerpt!

  37. I don't understand the purpose of rodents! Stinky and filthy pretty much sums them up!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think rodents is a great name for this class of animals!

  39. I love guinea pigs! Of course they are very clever because they can say 'week'! ;O)

  42. Reminds me of the little Brittain episode where the wheelchair guy is in the pet store wanting to buy a snake.

    "But you don't like snakes"
    "want a snake"
"what about a nice rabbit instead"
    "want a snake"
"fine... what are you gonna call it?"

    "Thumper..!"
