Longing for Lobster... and Sun

Happy Monday, everyone!

Well, the Great Hope (aka Andy Murray) may not have won Wimbledon, but hey, at least he provided a very good reason to pig out on strawberries and cream along with pear cider (non-alcoholic, sigh) on a Sunday afternoon. *pats belly contentedly*

And in total non-sequitur, I'm at Mel Chesley's today, talking about my books and such... and Mel has a lovely review of Build A Man.   I'm also at Carol Hedges' blog, discussing my reasons for self-publishing. Carol is a wonderful, sparky writer starting out on the self-publishing journey herself, so pop by if you get the chance!

I'll only be posting on Mondays for the next two weeks, due to a hectic schedule. This Friday, I take off to the wilds of Penrith for the Romantic Novelists' Association annual conference! Where's Penrith, you ask? I haven't a clue. (Ah, okay, I've just looked it up, and it's on the edge of the Lake District.)

Sounds idyllic, but for the fact it's only supposed to be around 15 C and rainy the whole time. The autumnal weather is, as you can imagine, prompting a wardrobe/ shoe crisis the likes of which has never before been seen. My previous plan had been to spend the weekend in lovely floaty maxi dresses with comfy yet stylish flat sandals. The dresses had the dual function of not only looking passable, but also hiding my bulging pot-belly which looks more like I've ingested too many pastries  rather than a 14-week pregnancy. Now, I'll be squishing myself into trousers paired with random tops that make me resemble the Michelin Madam.

Where's that lobster outfit when you need it?

Have a lovely week, and spare a thought for those battling the elements while you bask in glorious rays of sunshine, wearing the lovely floaty summer dresses I long for!

  1. I know, I know, I have no sensible shoes to wear in cold rainy weather except trainers and boots, and they really don't go with any of my nice clothes! I'm seriously considering the Festival Chic look: wellies with everything!

  2. Don't rush it - you'll look really pregnant soon enough.

  3. Hope you have a great time at the conference Talli! (and that there isn't too much rain...)

  4. I haven't been to the Lake District since I was little but I remember it being lovely. Have a great time, whatever the weather!

  7. Did I miss an announcement that you are expecting a bambino? If so, CONGRATULATION! If not... well then, my apologies to the pot-belly.

    Have a wonderful week-end.

  9. I bet you'll have a great time at the conference - weather notwithstanding! At this point I'd take that weather in a heartbeat!

  10. Yeah, it was a good tennis match. I use to live in Wimbledon as a child, so I could hear all that Wimbledon clapping from my house. Have fun Talli. The Lake district sounds nice! Oh, and you're welcome to take some of my Florida heat:)

  11. I've forgotten what the sun looks like or how to wear my flip flops. I too self publish so will pop over to read what you have to say.

  14. The Lake District's gorgeous, whatever the weather. Hope you have a brilliant time wafting around - whether you're wearing wellies or sandals with your maxi dresses!!

  15. No rays of sunshine forecast here n Cornwall either Talli - enjoy the conference!

  16. I love maxi skirts and dresses and always have. I have a number of them and wear them daily. My son teases me about being an old hippie. I'm not but I love how feminine they make me feel.

So take a few of the maxis with you and throw on a sweater over it. You're going to be inside for the most part and add some socks and shoes or boots and you should be good to go.
:-). Who says it has to be trousers?

    Enjoy your RNA conference.

  18. I really teared up when Andy didn't win. I mean it was time for GB to take the cup.

As to dressing for your conference, I'm with Sia! Congrats BTW. How did I miss your announcement of the great impending event? Asleep at the computer again, Lee! Very dangerous.

  26. OMG! Congrats, Talli! I missed the announcement, too.

  27. Never been to Penrith but I have a photo of their rail station sign that is one of my all time favorites : ) Have fun!

  28. Talli, thanks so much for your time. I had fun doing the interview. You will have to come guest post some day on my blog! And yes, that first 14 week tummy doesn't look like much now, but as they say, you should have the 'glow' to pull it off. It will get better, then you'll hit that point where you can't wait to go into labor and start counting the seconds... but worth it! Remember that end goal. ;) Have a great rest of the week!

  29. Oh, Talli, congratulations! I missed so much during the power outages and what not. How very exciting! :D

  30. No need for a reason to pig out Talli - enjoy the pregnancy.

  31. Amazing to hear about the rain while we broil in Phoenix, Arizona temperatures. Today was unbearable. But you always make me smile, laugh or both when I visit here! The Lobster Outfit! :D) Enjoy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hope you pigged out on the pear cider on my recommendation last week, because that would make me very happy. And alas, poor Andy. x

  33. Fall weather or not, I hope you have a great time at your conference!. I can't blame you even a little bit for craving lobster! As for sun... I'm just glad the 100 degree days have left for a while!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm fairly sure you don't need that lobster outfit just yet. Plus you've got one advantage over most people: you've got your own built-in heating with you now... Just watch everybody freeze and chatter while little bean is keeping you lovely and warm. Your heating bill will plummet this winter, and everybody else will just have to wear jumpers. Ha!

Have a great time at the conference and let us know what you got up to. Hope to see you at one of these events soon.... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh dear, at 14 weeks you cannot possibly be ready for a housedress like my grandmother used to wear. Shudders. I'm sure you'll be quite lovely in anything. You're making a wee one, you'll be all aglow!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh fun! I've been through Penrith on the train but never stopped there for long. Hope you have a great conference! Any conferences in Montreal coming up? :-)

  37. It's below freezing here in the mornings at the moment... very hard to get out of bed when your face is already cold! At least we have a decent summer I suppose.

I did tear up a little when Andy Murray made his speech thanking the crowd.

  38. Have a fabulous time at the conference. I'll send some sun your way since I'm vacationing in Florida. I'm sitting on my parents back patio watching the golfers curse at their faulty clubs and the tilted green. It's a great place to people watch.

  39. LOL! The Michelin Madam. You silly! Have fun in the Lake District, which sounds divine, albeit chilly. :D So excited for you and little TR. Fun times~ :o) <3

  40. I'm sending warm thoughts out to your conference! It's been in the 90's here with almost no humidity, scorching hot!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congrats Talli! "Michelin Madam" is a hilarious image.

  42. It's made the news here that London's breaking records for rainfall this summer... send some our way! We're in drought conditions.

  44. BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN
Why American men should boycott American women

    Boycott American Women

I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don't know how to cook or clean, don't want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

Tens of millions of American men have had their lives completely destroyed by American women through the following crimes:

    1. False rape accusations (it has been proven that up to 80 percent of rape accusations are FALSE)

    2. False domestic violence (DV) charges (same as above)

    3. Financial destruction of men in divorce courts through alimony and support payments (women get up to 95 percent of their ex-husband's income and savings, as well as the house, car, etc)

    4. Emotional destruction of men by ex-wives who have stolen their children from them and forbidden contact

    5. Divorced dads who commit suicide as a result

Not one single American woman has EVER condemned their fellow American women for committing these crimes against men. Silence means consent. Therefore, American women support and enjoy destroying men's lives and causing men to commit suicide. Apparently, American women think it is okay to be a criminal, just as long as you are a woman. Therefore, is it any surprise that a huge percent of American men no longer want anything to do with American women, other than using them for easy sex and then throwing them away?

Over 50 percent of American women are single, without a boyfriend or husband; so the fact is most American men no longer want to marry American women. Let these worthless American women grow old living alone with their 10 cats.

    BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!

  45. Have fun at the conference! Didn't realise you were 14 weeks gone as well! At least I won't be the only blimp at the Festival of Writing in York come September! :) Big congrats, fellow bump buddy!

  46. I am sure you are having a lovely time up there, in spite of our dreadful weather.

You have me pining for lobster now, and oysters!!! No I am not expecting! but going to Britanny soon so shall gorge on seafood there.

My wardrobe is a disaster, being an art student has meant jeans & t-shirts and paint spatters. My lovely floaty summer dresses hang forlornly in the wardrobe, it is just too chilly in Ireland to wear them at the mo.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I pack away all my winter clothes in the summer, so I can feel your wardrobe pain!
