Here Comes the Sun... and the Olympics!

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good week? Here in London, the city is awash with confused tourists, traffic snarls, and copious doses of Olympic fever.

But none of that matters. Because . . .

It's finally summer! Yes, my friends, after months and months (and more months) of rain and grey skies better suited to winter, the sun has made an appearance just in time for the start of the Olympics. It was lovely yesterday, too, and we took advantage of it by strolling through nearby Kensington Gardens with lunch at the Serpentine Lido, then a quick jaunt through Yoko Ono's exhibit at the Serpentine Pavilion.

Kensington Palace in the Sunday sun.

A sculpture across a branch of the Serpentine Lake. The reeds are the highest I've ever seen them, thanks to all the rain!

Yoko Ono's wish tree, where members of the public write their wishes on paper and attach them to the tree.

And in other news, today I'm over at Kim the Bookworm's blog with fellow authors Emma Burstall, Alice Peterson, and Janey Fraser. Pop over to say hi if you get the chance!

I will be making the most of this week's good weather, but I'll be back on Friday with a post from the lovely Amy Saia. See you then!

  4. Yay, I'm so glad London is getting sunny weather!! I love the Olympics and been following all the pre-Games coverage, and one of the biggest concerns was all the rain you've had this summer. Thank goodness the sun is finally telling the rain to move over!!

  6. Oh, that exhibition at the Serpentine Pavilion is on my list of things to see, what a perfect day you had for it yesterday! I cannot wait for the Olympics, the torch is coming just a street away from us here in Crouch End on Wednesday and I have tickets to Wimbledon and Gymnastics during the games! Are you going to see any of the action? Hx

  8. So glad you're enjoying the weather. London is one of the best places to be (in the whole wide world) when the sun smiles down and you can go off to the park with a pitcher of Pimms and a picnic. Lovely photos, too, thanks for sharing. Enjoy the Olympic opening ceremony--are you going? xx

  39. Hi, Talli,

Great pics! Glad you have the sun. I know I have enjoyed it for months in Florida. Now back home in Chicago and the weather here is warm and sunny too. Wonderful to be back home.

How exciting that the Olympics are in London this year. How cool! I had lived in Atlanta during the Olympics in the 90's. IT was CRAZY! I am sure it will be there too.

Enjoy the weather. The park is so lovely!

  41. Talli: It must be more than a mere coincidence that I have just blogged about Laurence Juber and you mentioned "Here Comes The Sun"! We must be on the same page--so to speak! Have a good day!!! :)

  46. Lucky Londoners as I have noticed on the news that the weather is much, much better at home there than over here in Ireland. I have counted three, yes three, sunny days so far this month.

    I think I am homesick :)

  47. Enjoy the sun, Talli - here in Yorkshire we got one lovely day and then the weather failed us again. Just as I'd taken my jumper off too...

  51. I'm so happy you'll have sun for the olympics. Enjoy! I can't wait for it to begin.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'll agree with David ... I would gleefully share a bit of sweltering heat and hammering sun with you! It would ease a bit of our discomfort and lend a bit more sunshine to your Olympics. Thanks or the lovely words about my cover in your comment to Michael Di Gesu's blog. That was very kind of you.

  53. Lovely photosbut summer hasn't reached Scotland yet, well it did for one day. Think I'll have to move to England.

  54. I like the Wish Tree. That's a great idea. We experienced the British Rcok n Roll Invasion during the 1960s and now you have the American Fat Tourist Invasion. At least that's what the media is saying.

I'm looking forward to the Opening Ceremonies tomorrow!

  55. Glad to see you have some nice weather for a change. I remember when the Olympics were in Los Angeles. Much excitement!
