Queasy Peasy

I love the word 'queasy' -- so expressive! So, as a tribute to such a fab word, here are a few things that make me queasy.

Squishing bugs. I just can't do it. I'd rather ignore ants and spiders, etc., than contemplate squashing them.

The smell of roast duck. I really can't stomach it. It's a curse, because Egyptians (one to whom I'm married) seem to think 'God got it right with ducks' (a direct quote). Somehow, I can't imagine God meant to create an animal that smells like dirty socks when it's cooking...

Gin. There's a story behind that one, but I don't think I'll share it right now!

Bad reviews. Enough said.

Leftovers. Bllleeerrrrgggh. Cold, minging bits of cooked food turn my tummy.

Actually, that was surprisingly hard. Maybe I'm less squeamish than I thought!

What makes you queasy?

  2. Hi, Talli,

For me it's the sea... I get seasick something aweful. I also can get bus and car sick at times. NOT fun.

  3. Loose teeth. Monster Baby chased me around the house showing it to me until it finally fell out.

  4. Roller coasters and pretty much anything with a similar motion or actually motion of any kind (dramamine is my friend), phone calls from my college aged daughter that begin-'I have something to tell you'-they're usually nothing but she does like to get my stomach churning, turkey innards, letters from the IRS, and slugs.

  5. Awwww so glad you don't squish bugs! Yay for you!!!

What makes me queasy?!?! Er... the Day after?? :-)

p.s. will wait very patiently for your gin story to come out. With pics! :-)

    Take care

  6. Love the Q post.
Being all at sea makes me feel queasy and high roller coasters.

    Yvonne.

  7. OMGosh, that's simple: crayons!! Sounds silly?? The entire time I was pregnant with my third child the scent of crayons made me nauseas. Still does. :)

  8. I can't bear to look at rice pudding, even on tv. Bleurgh. Must stop thinking about it.

Also hate touching raw meat. *shivers*

  9. What makes me queasy?

The sticky bits of leftover food on the plate.

    Mushrooms

Unidentified foodstuffs in the employee fridge.

  10. You have it all wrong, Talli. They aren't called leftovers, they're real name is cooked-aheads! (My mother was a genius with cooked-aheads.)

As for what makes me queasy? I have a pretty darn strong stomach and can smash bugs with best of 'em.

  11. Hmmm, can't think of anything which currently makes me feel queasy, although when I was pregnant with the last three almost anything would do it! Also, for most of my formative years, the smell of baking bread (which, in my head, was linked to my measles outbreak) made me feel sick. Not now though.Hmm. So, I guess I must have a pretty strong stomach. (I even drank half a pint of sour milk the other day, from a milkbottle erroneously put back in the fridge. I was half way through before I realised. Was yuk, but it still stayed down!)

  12. OMG, when I was pregnant I got a bottle of perfume for Christmas. I still can't wear it because the smell brings back the morning sickness...and my daughter is almost 16!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I can't stand the sight of blood. If it's my own - fine. But if you're bleeding, stay away from me please.

  14. At the top of my Queasy List: the smell of fresh tomatoes and reading on the bus or in a car.
    Happy Wednesday!

  15. Interesting word... In-laws, too much blood, vomit and rejection~

    Gin, huh...

    ReplyDelete
  16. The smell of cigarettes. Reading while riding in a car or bus.

    Statistics.

But then I drink ginger tea and all is well.

  17. Thank you Talli for the comment much appreciated, as you say .....if only not to be stressed.
    Yvonne.

  18. I have a very strong stomach, but the one thing that it sure to make me queasy is watching/listening someone else get sick. Bingo, I'm sick too. *Shudder*

  19. Good ones Talli.

I don't like squishing large spiders, the smell makes me queasy. My family tease me about having a nose like a bloodhound. I've gotten better with my dogs vomiting, since I raise the dang things, but every once in awhile it will catch me unaware and queasiness commences.

  20. Watching people eat. I can't stand seeing people chew food. If I'm out for dinner or having friends over for food you'll usually see me staring intently at my own plate so as not to catch someone with food in their mouths.

  21. Flying! Oh my word I can't sit on a long-haul flight without getting severely nauseous towards the end - though that could alternatively just be the lack of sleep (I can't sleep on flights).

Hmm... squashing bugs bothers me too. I hate them but can't bring myself to kill them. Especially cockroaches. The crunch when you kill them just makes me ill. :-)

  22. Cool list and question! I think what makes me queasy is what I feel in my knees and that's always some wound that shows the inside of a person, even just a bad scrape. A bit gruesome, but there you have it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hahaha, good to know some interesting details about you. My daughter can't even look at leftovers, but my husband will eat anything.

  24. Queasy -
3 Pregnancies (totally worth it though)
Glass bottom boats (happened to me at Key West on an anniversary trip)
Frozen chicken pot pie warmed up.
    Mice
    Tilt-a-Whirl or Spinning Tea Cups

  25. Hi Talli - my golly gosh - roast duck .. simply delicious.

Brazil and Macadmia nuts make me feel not happy - they just don't get eaten .. and I've never got to eat tripe - surprise really .. as I had friends who made it - wish I had .. because I'm sure it's delicious.

I won't go into other thoughts - prefer the positives of life! Cheers and here's a Pimms just now! Hilary

  26. Hearing or seeing other people retching (can not stand it in movies, gotta close my eyes and cover my ears!) and the smell of vinegar. Nasty!

    ReplyDelete
  27. What gets me queasy? Reading in the car and the smell of sour milk. Also, I can't stand having blood drawn. I don't look, but it still makes me queasy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Glad you don't like squishing bugs. Bugs appreciate that!

I don't like warm milk at all. I love chocolate milk, but even that better be ice cold.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Don't get queasy -- just try to think of a way to cook it! Wait! I remember, from a hundred years ago, my old uncle used to walk around carrying his own mini-spittoon (an empty tuna can) and that definitely made me queasy.

  34. Movies with excessive gore. Dog poo on the sidewalk, especially if it’s been stepped in. I don’t know why that makes me queasier, but it does.

  35. All bugs make my stomach turn.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm with you on squishing bugs... *shudders* Eww!

Pretty much anything dead makes me queasy...

  38. Spit makes me queasy!
And saw your comment on my blog - who's Alex?

  39. Well, since you asked, I found the maggoty carcass of a dead rat on the garden lawn and that nearly finished me off. I'm still trying to avoid the nightmares! :O)

  41. Oh and my Mum had an old tin full of buttons cut off various items of old charity shop clothing and the smell turned my stomach and put me off buttons for years! :O)

  42. Love your list!!!

For me I get queasy when people lick their fingers... it gives me the heebie jeebies.

BTW I love your new background! How did you manage that?! It's made of awesomenes!!! Ten points for The Hating Game!

  44. That's an easy one for me, cream of mushroom soup. Which is odd, because I love mushrooms. But the smell of that stuff will make me abandon my own home!

    ReplyDelete
  45. People spitting in the street. That really makes me feel sick. Yuck.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Fun post! I can't handle duck, yuck! Or white puddings, double yuck!! Or people who talk with food in their mouths...looking at that mess makes me wanna throw up, triple yuck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm with you on bugs, I can't stand squishing them and will often send my cat to kill them for me. Pathetic, I know!

I get terrible motion sickness too, I should buy stock in dramamine.

    Fun post!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I get motion sick everywhere... I'm with you on the squashing bugs. Cleaning up pet vomit doesn't make my tummy very happy either.

And those big, fat envelopes returning submitted work - though that's one's kind of a cross-over between queasy and really, really sad.

  49. The smell of Gin! I wonder if your Gin story is similiar to my Gin story!!! :)

  50. When I was pregnant, the smell of burnt toast made me really queasy...and it still bothers me sometimes, 15 years later.

  51. Loose teeth - especially when children are proud and have to show you how they are hanging by a thread and they can move it around with their tongue. EWWW!!

  53. Dealing with raw chicken makes me queasy. It's the only raw meat that does, and I love to cook, so it drives me nuts. Just the smell, not the feel or anything, unless it's a whole bird that I'm preparing to roast or something. I don't like reaching into the body cavity or whatnot. Ew. And spinny rides. Anything that makes me go around in a circle. Roller coasters are fine, though.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm with Michael, being on water does it every time for me.
    xx

  55. Duck is my FAVOURITE meat! More for me then? ;)

I do however agree with you squishing bugs...just imagining them exploding and spreading their slimy contents all over the bottom of your shoe...ew!

Puke also makes me queasy: the smell of it, the sight of it, seeing or even hearing people doing it!

    ReplyDelete
  56. The smell of asparagus and when my husband mixes his food; UGH!!!
great 'q' word...I'm still wondering what that 'gin' story is!?

    ReplyDelete
  57. What! I absolutely love roast duck :)

What makes me queasy is this apparent delicacy in some countries: chicken fetuses. They smell disgusting and the thought of eating one makes me queasy indeed.

  61. Bugs make me queasy too; once I saw a spider fall onto the shoulder of one of my students during class and I totally started shrieking and pointing at it. (My student, however, did not freak out.) The students giggled when I freaked out, but I couldn't help it.

  65. I'm a vegetarian but I used to eat meat, so while I like the smell of some cooked meats, the smell of the raw stuff makes me ill. Doesn't help that I have to walk past a butchers whenever I have to catch any form of public transport.
