Night Creature, Me?

Hallelujah, it's Saturday. Thank you all for the lovely comments on my blog redesign! I'm trying my best these days to return all comments by visiting your blog, but I must admit that I'm struggling to get around to everyone in a timely fashion. Bear with me -- I'll do my best.

Now. Are you a creature of the night, or a early bird? Me, I'm the latter. As soon as the sun comes up, my eyes pop open and I'm awake. I love sitting at my desk when the streets are silent and Mr TR is still snoring, watching the city come to life. Mornings are when I do most of my writing, too. I think my brain shuts down after 2 p.m.!

By the time it's ten at night, I'm ready to go to bed (sad as that is to admit, I know). While the urban foxes roam London's street and the clubbers come out in full force, I'm climbing between the sheets and snuggling up with a good book. Bliss!

What about you? Early riser or late to bed?

  1. Hey Talli! I love the new design, it's fantastic!

I have to say I am a night creature. I settle down at 8pm, most of the time, and I am normally in the swing of it and feeling all creative about 10ish. Then I can write until 1/2am. I do occasionally do some good work in the mornings, but night time is definitely my creative period. Good news for the book, bad news for my sleep :-s

  2. I have to admit that I'm neither. I HATE dragging myself out of bed in the mornings, and I like being tucked up and asleep by 10pm. But then I do work like crazy in the in-between hours...

  3. I'm not sure which I am. Jen and I get up before 7am to head out to work, and I do a lot of my writing or research before work starts.

But I also do a lot of writing in the evenings, and we both frequently go to bed late.

  4. I'm an early bird, no doubt about it. Or I was, until 3 weeks ago when our baby daughter arrived. Now I'm just shot away.... sleep? What's that? :o)

Love the new blog design by the way!

  5. I'm a bat. I like to sleep in the daytime and be awake at night foraging. :-)

Or that's what I say at work when I'm caught napping! LOL! Oh the sun is OUT and it's Saturday!!

    Enjoy! take care

  6. The new design is FUN FUN FUN!
Well done....the trick is adjusting to what is happeming that second wind at 11:00 in the evening can be a killer in the morning but one can sleep well knowing the next day is well organized. Thanks for the comments as you know they do mean more than one can say!

  7. Can I say neither? I'm useless after ten o'clock at night and relish sleeping in late.

  8. I'm all about 11a.m. That's my creative time when writing (that's why the day-job plays merry hell with any writing). Painting is a completely different matter - when I'm painting I get going at about 9 p.m. I hate painting during the day.
    Love your new blog design!

  9. I'm an early riser...DEFINITELY!!! I love getting up at 5:00 but am in bed by 9:30! I can't stay up with the big people, as my husband says...

  10. 10pm is about my bedtime too :) but i hate getting up. I just love my bed too much haha

    ReplyDelete
  11. I stay up as late as I possibly can, If I went to bed at ten by 12 midnight I'd had my deep sleep and be tossing and turning all night,

    Enjoy your week-end.
    Yvonne.

  12. I am an early riser and in bed by around 10 or 10:30. At that time my eyes are closing.
    Take care.

  13. Hi Talli,

I am an early bird, but I find that if I haven't started something that I needed to do by a certain time in the morning, then it will probably never get done.

Although I must admit I enjoy the solitude of working after 10pm, when everything is a lot calmer
(I live in the London suburbs, there is no partying over here)

  14. I'm up with the birds (5am) and believe it or not usually go to bed around 8:30. Can't stay up much past 9. I get all my work done when Monster Child is in school. When the house is blissfully quiet.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I too am an early bird, up between 5 and 6 most mornings. I'm a little slow getting going, but mornings are the best times for me, when I am the most "creative."

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm an early riser, always have been. In high school, when sneaking out into NYC with friends, I'd start yawning and looking for comfortable corners of dance floors for a quick kip. I wish I was a night owl because that's when the kids are asleep and my brain reverts to it's previous upright position. Oh well.

BTW, I gave you the prestigious Versatile Blog Award. You can see it here: http://bit.ly/dXjs0w, if you are into awards and such. If not, that's totally cool. Consider it a virtual high five.

  17. This new blog design feels like you and your books--bright, fun, welcoming.

I write well early with my morning coffee--if I don't get distracted by blogging! But I can write at night, too. My least productive time seems to be mid-day.

  18. Late to bed for me. It is 1.30am right now. Love the new layout.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm an early bird! (But I prefer chocolate chip pancakes NOT worms.) My brain starts shutting down in the evening. Once it's time to make dinner, it's time to stop writing. After dinner all I want to do is curl up with a good book until I get sleepy!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm forced to be an early riser because of work. But really, I'm neither. I'd be a 9am-12am awake person if I had no obligations.

I didn't know you were an early bird. My best writing time usually happens between 10am and 1 pm.

    ReplyDelete
  21. A good book near the witching hour (but not too near :)) is bliss. I used to be a night owl for the first couple of decades and change of my life. I am now most certainly transitioning. I heart sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I use to be a night owl, but children changed that. I tend to be a humming bird; midday is when I'm at my best.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I LOOOOOOVE the new website design! Oh my goodness it's GORGEOUS!

I'm a total night creature. Can't get anything done in the morning, too out of it and tired and grumpy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh. I'm just a really run of the mill Vampire. No sleep. At all. ;-) I'm up late writing or blogging and I'm up early because, well I can't sleep. Therefore, Vampire.

PS: AND I love your new blog look - totally fits with your book sweetheart!

  25. Luvvvv the new look blog; it matches your cover perfectly.

I'm an early-riser, so I do my best writing in the am. Oddly, I often have my best ideas in the evening!

  26. I am a "night owl" as well :) for some reason I work best when it is way past my bedtime, I suppose I get a thrill from being up and productive when I'm not supposed to be haha.

And Talli, the new layout design of your blog is simply AWESOME!!! I think it fits perfectly, especially since it mimics the cover of The Hating Game. Awesome advertising tactics! :P

  27. Sad to say, Talli, but I have little choice when I write. During the week it's up at 3:00 am, office by 4:00 am and not home until 3:00 pm. That leaves 5 hours for everything else in my life. With that in mind, I have to take advantage of any moment that I can get my hands on!!
At the moment I'm awaiting the edits on book 2 which are in the hands of my publisher, so all I'm writing are blog posts and magazine articles.
I am currently penning this note to you on Saturday morning, but I can write at any time, really. What choice do I have? Lol.
    Take care.

  28. Definitely an early riser. I can barely function if I stay up past 11pm the night before. Did I just admit that? Have a great weekend! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I go back and forth. Sometimes I’m wide awake to see the sunrise or I'm up into the late-late night. It’s not on purpose it just works out that way. I like the new look, simple and elegant.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm an early bird, like you. Even on the weekends I'm up by 7AM, and I do most of my writing early in the day. I'm usually in bed by 10ish, and by then I only have the energy to read before dozing off.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Days and nights have been switched since birth. My days in the daytime workforce were more tan rough on me.
    Best writing time -- 9pm to 3am.

    ReplyDelete
  32. What a great new design - I'm impressed with your cleverness!

I'm a night owl but wish I was a lark. In the mornings I can't help but to dash about the house 'doing' things that never get noticed anyway!I'm sure I could write quicker/better earlier but never quite get to it until much later in the day. Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  33. I happen to be both.... IT'S TERRIBLE! I don't nearly get enough sleep and my mind is always racing. I do my best writing between 11:00 and 2:00 AM!

Mornings I catch up with blogging and design work takes over the afternoon.

    Never a dull moment.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Definitely an early riser as we start milking at 5.30. and don't finish other work until 7 in the evening. Then there is always some dreaded paperwork to do after tea before turning in sometime after 10.30.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Insomniac - I sleep when I can. Write when I can - and mastur..... wait - that wasn't one of the questions...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love your new design! I'm an early bird. Though I really like my sleep! I love how much work I can get done when all the kids are still asleep.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Your blog does look great, Talli! I used to be a morning person, but as I get older (I mean more mature) it seems harder to get going in the morning. I think I'm more of a middle of the day person now as far as getting things done.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I get my second wind late at night. When I was a kid my early bird Mom would have a hard time waking me up in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love the new blog look! Hmm, I vary between night owl and early bird. As long as I get enough sleep before or after I could do one or the other. Mmm, sleep.......

    ReplyDelete
  40. That DOES sound like bliss. I'm still up - it's 1am and I'm v tired. Trying to keep up with all the blogging and networking. This is called a challenge for a reason!

When I'm on normal sync, I'm far better in the morning. Like you, there's nothing better than bed early with a good book.

    Night night.
    xx

  41. I used to be the morning creature from you know where, then I'd crash around noon.

Then I got a job working from 4pm till 12 midnight-and was totally ruined.

On weekends and holidays, I revert to my night shift hours-I love them.

I also love love love your new look!!! Very pretty :) I redo mine at least every couple months....I blame it on adult ADHD, lol!

    Happy weekend!

  42. I go sleepies at 9-10 as well. Keep telling hubby I need the beauty sleep. He always agrees with me. I think I need a new HUBBY! Write me a book about THAT!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm an Owl, I struggle to get up early so I waste a lot of the day coming round.

    ReplyDelete
  44. By preference I'm a night owl, but my preferences take a backseat to that of my kids, so now I'm a morning person, but I'm not a chipper one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I used to be a night owl but not so much anymore.

No wonder you're having a hard time keeping up with the comments. I'm posting comment 50! I've never had that many on one post.

  46. I always get my 2nd wind late at night. I wish I was more of a morning person. Thanks for all of your wonderful comments! I don't know how you find the time! Julie

  47. I'm suuuuuuuuuch a night owl. I've done all my uni degrees late at night, and that's when my WIPs happen too!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm up before the sun at 6. It'll normally be a long day, and I'm off to bed at around 10. But that's not the end of it: sometimes something hits me and I'm up at 3 a.m, doing a post or something then go back to sleep an hour or so later.

  49. Night owl, definitely!

I write best at night, when the minds and bodies around me are sound asleep.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Morning person...but if I am not in the bed by 10 I could be up for the night. So maybe I am a 50/50 sort.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Talli .. early bird = me! I'm exhausted at night .. I try and keep going .. but sometimes it's hopeless.

Perhaps you got up to see the Marathon? See you around ... and enjoy this beautiful day .. cheers Hilary

  52. Just found your blog (via Hart Johnson's extremely enthusiastic rec) and it looks smashing to me. I love the colors especially--so soothing.

As for the question--love waking up early (it's my best writing time too) and my days of staying up late are passed. Sometimes I don't even see the moon.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm an early bird too, and a bookworm...talk about mixed metaphors, lol.

I'm struggling to visit and comment on as many posts as possible, but I mostly find it a losing battle...sigh.

  54. I am late to bed...always! I love writing at night - just love it!!

I'm an early bird too - mornings are the best!

  57. Oh, bother. I like to sleep in each morning and go to bed early each night. Can I answer neither? I write over my lunch hour!

    Beautiful new background, too!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I guess if I were to prefer, it would be night time. But I have to get up early for work.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am both. I typically don't get to bed til after midnight and I seem to automatically wake up about 6 am. I've never been much of a sleeper, too many other things I'd rather do I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi Talli,

I like the new look around here, very cool!

I prefer to read in bed till very late at night, though I have to get up early in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think I've changed over the years, I used get up at around 6am but this has got later and later - I'm now normally up by 8am.

But I'm always ready for bed (and yawning away) by 10pm :D

    ReplyDelete
  62. I wish I could choose one or the other, but I'm both! I don't seem to need much sleep! I want to, but I don't...

  63. Yes i like the new blog design. Yay! :O)
