Guilty Pleasures

I won't even tell you what kind of photos I found searching for 'guilty pleasures'. My eyes, my eyes!

I've started plotting my next novel, The Pollyanna Plan, but as you know, lately I'm been embracing the faff. And to that end, I've indulged in a few guilty pleasures. So here they are... in no particular order.

1. Afternoon naps. There's something so decadent about shutting your eyes and drifting away...

2. Phil and Kirsty. Give me any property show with these two, and I'll watch for hours. I don't care how boring real estate is -- I love their chemistry.

3. Staring into space. Mr TR calls it 'being a horse' (like animals in fields staring at nothing), and I love it. I can only manage a few minutes before getting bored, though.

4. Window shopping. I'm lucky enough (well, not for my budget) to live close to High Street Kensington, a street lined with loads of shops. Although I'm not much a browser, I do love looking into shop windows and people watching.

5. The Daily Mail. Every day, a story in this paper makes me laugh. From cancer-causing veggies to sperm-squirting squids (don't ask), the more ridiculous, the better.

So there you have it! A few of my tamer guilty pleasures.

What are yours?

  1. Ah yes...staring off into space. I can get lost there. And I'm still giggling at the word faff. Any words from this side of the pond that makes you giggle?

  2. I watch Everybody Loves Raymond every morning from 10 til 11. I have seen all the episodes before but they still amuse me enough to keep watching them!

And - how can you write "sperm-squirting squids" and expect us not to ask? :p

  3. "Being a horse!" LOL, I love it. And sorry about your eyes. :)

  4. I expertly embrace the faff! Watching Come Dine with Me (there's an omnibus edition that lasts for 2 hours!) and staring at housework which needs doing without actually doing it probably rate as my two top ones. Also walking the dogs, but that's useful, so probably doesn't rate as highly, even though it ISN'T WRITING.

  6. I would have thought you'd be far too busy for afternoon naps!!

I tend to feel worse if I go to sleep in the day; reserved only for sick days!!

  7. I think you need to be a guy to properly stare into space and think of nothing. We mastered that trick years ago.
Guilty pleasures are computer games and movies for me.

  8. Fascinating how staring off into space is so universal. Our minds are just shifting gears, going into realms that cannot be seen by the physical eye ... that's my story, and I'm sticking with it!

  9. Yes to window shopping and afternoon naps! How I wish I could indulge in both today...

  10. Nice, Talli! I've been known to stare into space, too. :)

  11. My guilty pleasure is emails from Bath & Body Works proclaiming their biggest sale ever. (When are they not having a sale, anyway?) Yes, my cupboard is full of products, but I jump in and buy more every time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My guilty pleasures is some window shopping too though I seldom buy anything. Reading a book on the back deck is pretty high on my list.

  13. LOL- sounds like you have been having fun! a guilty pleasure of mine-well sometimes I like to be home alone so I can watch an entire anime series without interruption.

  14. I am a space-starer. Love it. I just tell my friends I'm thinking up a new invention or solving world peace. They don't buy it. They just think I'm bored.

  15. I'm laughing. Being a horse? They usually are looking at something since their ears and eyes are moving.

Afternoon naps and 4 hand canasta on Pogo are my guilty pleasure. Funny, nothing on TV ever falls into guilty pleasures.

  16. I love my afternoon nap and rarely miss it these days. It's usually only 5 to 20 minutes, but it feels like hours and it's a great recharge during my day. Even when I was working I nearly always take a short power nap at my desk.

  17. Soon I'll have time for a guilty pleasure or two again. Here lately it's been work, work, work. Can't wait! Glad you enjoyed yours :)

  18. Afternoon naps are the BEST! I took one yesterday, and I really wish I could do it again today. Have fun embracing the faff!

  19. So glad I am not the only one who indulges sometimes. An afternoon nap - yes, I've been known to grab one of those. Today is looking like a good candidate for that. Diet Coke is another one of my favorites. Have cut back, but I often hear it calling my name...

    Happy Monday! :)

  20. Naps are good. I don't think I have any guilty pleasures, they are pleasurable and I don't feel guilty for indulging myself them. :)

  21. Oh yes naps are wonderful...eating piece of chocolate after every meal (or 2..or 3), celebrity gossip any way I can get it, and looking at houses on the real estate websites are a few of my guilty pleasures :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Talli, if loving naps is wrong I don't want to be right.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have to say that i also love staring into space. It's so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  24. LOL! Oh man! I can just imagine the assortment of pics that came up with that google search! hahaha
I love naps too! And staring into space... can't forget that one!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I also love window shopping and people watching! I get into less trouble that way! Julie

  26. My guilty pleasure is the comments on the Daily Mail website - people seem to have no idea how extreme their words and opinions are!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Staring into space is the best!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. 'K, that just made me sound weird.

  29. I do a daily dose of the Daily Mail site here from NZ - it is a complete substitute for women's mags for me. And it doesn't cost anything. You are so lucky in London to have a choice of papers. We only have one and it is ok but there is no choice.

    Have a great time faffing.

  30. My guilty pleasure is cheesy 80s pop music. It's awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm a sucker for Kirsty and Phil too. It's just not the same when they spin off on their own, is it?

I could sit and watch endless episodes of Spongebob Squarepants, too. I never tire of that show.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Guilty pleasures? Well, other than naps and too much tea... (if that's even possible!)
Actually, I can't think of any at the moment that aren't food related. I guess I need to think on it. :) (I really like food!)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes yes yes! You and I share number two on the list :) though I think I prefer shops around Portobello Road to High Street Ken which seems to be all chain shops & coffee bars now and ruined just like the Kings Road.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Perusing YouTube is one of them. Especially when it comes to older videos by vloggers.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Right up there with afternoon naps is a long afternoon shower. Yes, I have been in my pyjamas until lunchtime... don't judge me! :-)

I also love following the sun around the house and lazing, generally with a book or my laptop. Generally I have at least one cat for company in each spot. In the summer I like sitting out on our patio and just admiring the flowers and trees.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Now this sounds like fun research! Well, except for staring into space. No wait, actually I do that all the time as I'm plotting. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. My guilty pleasures all seem to revolve around TV shows and food :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love staring into space. Some of my best plot ideas are born that way. However, I stare into space way too much, and type out those idea way not enough.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Afternoon naps are one of my favs too. =D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Naps on a Sunday afternoon are my absolute favorite thing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Guilty pleasure, huh? Oh, I read the fine print, so only the tame ones. I used to hate naps, but I guess it happens with age because I so love them now. Pina Colada's by the pool (lot's of guilt drinking those calories, but they are so refreshing on a hot day. Watching reruns of Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Weeds. I also love to stare into space. My kids often yell to me to come back to earth, but those few moments are relaxing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh! YouTubes and Pinterest!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes to window shopping but the Daily Mail (oh dear! lol).

    I'll stick to chocolate :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. My guilty pleasures are chocolate and teen novels. Sometimes both at the same time! Racy. . .

    ReplyDelete
  45. My guilty pleasures is going to a Daniel concert,

    Yvonne.

  46. It's sad that we end up with all those pictures when we are searching for something else. My husband was stung this weekend and we searched for 'big black bee' online and it was blocked by our software labeling the search pornographic. LOL
My guilty pleasure is dark chocolate and coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Naps rank high on my list too. Real Housewives of Orange County and NJ. Staying in my pjs for a morning. Reeses Minis. They're bite sized and no wrapper...what's not to love?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow! All that and naps, too? You are amazing, but then so is the Daily Mail. I love a summer swing in the hammock. That's one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Have to have a good book along, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  49. My guilty pleasure would probably be sat wasting hours on the internet googling things like guilty pleasures. It's amazing how much of a time suck the internet can be. I really have to restrict myself.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't even want to imagine what your poor eyes saw!

My guilty pleasures are watching The Wright Stuff and Big Brother (think I'm the only one watching this year).

    ReplyDelete
  51. Mr TR is hilarious. HAHA being a horse. Love that. I have to admit I share a fair few of your guilty pleasures. Staring into space is one of my favourites. Though I always claim I'm 'planning my book'. The things I can get away with...

Off to Google 'guilty pleasures' now :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Afternoon naps sound like heaven. None for me until vacation time though. The boss wouldn't understand me nodding off at the desk.

You gotta love reading the news!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I can only imagine the photos you stumbled across... and your poor eyes! This reminded me of the time I was sitting beside my young son helping out with his homework. I did a google search on 'playgrounds' I believe it was... oh my goodness!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm not sure about "guilty pleasures." What you've mentioned sounds just like everyday life in the real world.

I have a nap most afternoons. It's something of a pleasure. Well, more like a necessity, to get me through the day. Truth is that I sleep poorly at night, so I need a nap. I feel not one bit guilty about that. It's just life with who I am.

When daily events become daily guilt, I think we're in serious trouble, Talli. Very serious trouble.

But what do I know? I'm just a Bear.

  55. I can just imagine what kind of pics would come up with a search for Guilty Pleasures. Not for the prudish or with kids running about!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think I have too any to mention. My favorite is eating...
We all need at least one, right?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh Talli...how did you NOT know that was a phrase you should never Google Image?

    My guilty pleasures...
    1. Fanfiction - just reading it at this point (writing efforts go into my projects)
    2. Finding everything Benedict Cumberbatch has appeared in, and watching it. (Sherlock stole my heart.)
    3. Advice columns. I don't know why. I used to read all the advice columns in the newspaper. That's all I read in the newspaper besides comics when I was a kid. Now I read webcomics and online advice columns. I can't get enough of them.
    4. Webcomics. See above.

  58. #1 guilty pleasure is TWITTER. It's bad. I think celebrities are my best friends. Terrible habit:)
