Embrace the Faff

Although in my normal life, I'm extremely goal-oriented to the point of obsession, I'm an expert faffer when I put my mind to it. And with the launch of the book behind me, most of the accompanying activities squared away, and a few free days looming before diving into my next novel, that's exactly what I intend on doing.

'Faffing' for me usually entails a few hours aimlessly surfing the 'net (Daily Mail, anyone?), entering random Google searches and snickering at some of the ruder results. What can I say, in this current state, it doesn't take much to amuse me! Then, when I finally haul my arse off the sofa and away from Whiny Housewives of Orange County -- strangely addictive, I might add -- I'll wander down to Kensington High Street and peruse the shops for red trousers (!!), grab a yummy strawberries and cream drink thingy from one of the gazillions of Starbucks along the way, and saunter through the park past Kensington Palace on my way home.

Perfection.

What's your favourite way to faff?

  1. Oh I agree, Talli. I'm obssessive about deadlines but faffing - well, a good long walk with Molls. If I'm with Luvitt this inevitably ends in a pub somewhere. Otherwise the pub comes later. Today, having got morning work done, I'm going to meet a friend for lunch. Very important faffing!

  2. Facebook and Pinterest are my favourite ways to faff. I really don't have time for faffing at the moment, but I can't seem to resist the pull of mindless games and pretty pictures!

  3. Faffing? Ha! This is new to me, the word that is. I'd love to use it, but I fear if I tell someone in the States that I like to faff off, they might look at me like I'm a sinner. And I agree with you, the Internet is a great place to faff off. Have a great time faffing! Can't you tell I like this new word? :)

  4. Window shopping, hanging out in the gym cafe after a workout and browsing are great ways to faff about too. LOL

  5. A couple hours of random web surfing on my iPad while watching Psych or Pawn Stars.

  6. I faff with the best of them. Skyrim is my main culprit, though surfing sites like Blastr and GeeksareSexy are my main online goto faff sites.

  8. Sounds great Talli, I love Kenninsgton especially the park and the Palace. Used to visit there very often. I had friends there and loved going there.
    Have a great day.

  9. Sounds awesome! Mine would be making vacation plans - Google Maps here I come. Or drinking latte after latte and reading outside, in the sun...

  10. The internet comes to mind : )

    Enjoy your time off!

  11. I think the internet comes to mind for me too. I'm not really a shopper, and tied to picking the kids up etc. I find myself tied to the house. Your faffing about sounds much better fun.

  12. At least you have somewhere nice to go for a walk. I surf the internet looking for holidays I think I missed my vocation in life and should have been a travel agent.

  13. Pointless browsing on the internet. Anything and everything, really. I do love faffing!

  14. Ebay's a great way to faff. I go on to search for one thing and three hours later I'm still there.

I also get obsessed with games on my phone (Draw Something being a prime example). At the moment it's Song Pop.

  15. I enjoy photography. Walking aimlessly and taking random photos is an excellent way to faff (that's a new word for me).

  16. Going for a walk is my fave way of relaxing and wasting time. Especially if I bring a camera along and pretend I'm artsy. :)

  17. Faffing off is my favorite. (I am cracking up at the way that sounds, Talli.) Anyway, when I faff off, I like to go for a long walk or go shopping. I do love my summer dresses!

  20. I have never heard the term "faffing" before. That is so cool!

  21. I love this word - use it all the time! Ebay is always a time waster as is randomly searching goggle for interesting stuff!

PS So love that kitten pic - so cute.

  22. Up until this very moment, I was unaware that there even *is* such a thing as faffing. Well, actually, I just didn't know the word. The activity, oh yes! Sitting in bed with a laptop and copious cups of tea at my elbow, pursuing my latest online rabbit trail, that's my way of doing it. What a ka-faffle...

  23. I also love long walks with a Starbucks drink in my hand. I prefer the frozen chocolate drinks, though the strawberry ones sound refreshing! Happy faffing! Julie

  24. Faffing might just be my new favorite word. I tend to get distracted on youtube for hours on end. Or bake. And eat. And then bake so that I can eat some more. :-)

  26. Your life is one I want. I think that's how it always goes though. It just sounds so peaceful today. Not that mine isn't... I'm watching a television show while blogging and enjoying a nice lunch. Either life is a happy one I suppose!

PS - I'm a housewives addict. It's insane and I will not apologize.

  27. LOL, "faffing!" Well, the past six or so months at my day job have been so intense that when I don't *have* to do anything, I just don't. I crash and faff. I need to work on scheduling the appropriate amount of "do nothing" time so that I've still got time and energy to write. But of late, it seems like faffery has been my middle name! :-)

  28. I had to look up what faffing meant! It's a Britishism that hasn't made this side of the Atlantic....

For me, going off on a hike.

  29. Talli, I didn't even know there was a word for it. Watching movies is my favorite fafftime. Did I just make up a new word?!

  30. Yup, I'm faff central, too, today. Ain't it grand!
Have a truly blissful stress free day

  31. Well, probably pretty obvious, I like to faff on the beach.

  32. Lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a Daily Mail habit!

  33. I love that word! I like to work a jigsaw puzzle when I take some time to do nothing, or while it's hot out, float in the pool and read a book.

  34. I like the way you think, Talli!

  35. I have to admit I've never heard of faffing, but I think I would spend it doing the same as you (catching up on email, blogger, and facebook)

  36. Love the whole faffing thing - if only I could keep it to AFTER the work is done like you, Talli!

  37. Both the word and the image made me smile. Hope you have a ray of sun while at that park on your stroll.

  38. When I'm faffing I have to be in my PJ's, with a glass of wine to hand, my laptop on my erm, lap, and a bowl of olives nearby - then it's anything goes! Faff...fafff...fafffffff.

  39. Hmmmm never heard of faffing til now, but I would have to say I am rather good at it. One of my favourite ways is to watch Relocation Relocation and A Place in the Sun (only if Jasmine is on it).

Daydreaming is perhaps my special skill though.

By the way, I love the kitten which looks just like one of my two new babies!

  40. Have a faffing great time, Talli! You deserve it after all that hard work...

  41. Faffing. What a fun word! Try to say that five times fast, lol.

    Enjoy your down time!
