Well-Behaved Women... Or Not

It's Wednesday! I've hardly slept at all! Yes, my friends, I spent the night trying to snooze on the sofa. And when I did finally manage to drift off, I dreamt a rat bit my pet kitten and it died in my arms. Pleasant, I know.

As I've mentioned once or twice (har!), the launch for Willow is coming up Sept 14th. Yay! I'd gathered quotes by Marilyn Monroe to put at the start of every chapter, to echo the action. Sadly, due to legal reasons, they had to be removed. But never fear, because from now until launch-day, I'm going to post them on my Facebook author page. I'm quite possibly a little over-excited about this plan, but I did love those quotes. Chapter 1's quote was this:

Well behaved women rarely make history.
--Marilyn Monroe

I know many of you are busy with WriteOnCon, so today I'm going to post a link to a video by the wonderful author Beth Revis on not giving up. Head over and have a watch -- it's very inspirational.

And have a great Wednesday!

  1. I'll be glad to watch it - I need a distraction today :-) Rotten nightmare. Hope you shake it off and have a great day. (Could it be stress over your upcoming success?)

  2. Hi Tali, thanks for your great comment on my 'Stunners in Trousers' blog post!

I love Marilyn Monroe and the comments would have been a fabulous way to sashay into the chapters. What a shame. That's why we have to keep on quoting people who died centuries ago... no legal wrangles!

  3. Hi Talli-

    Sorry about the nightmare.

Quotes are the most fun, but yes, sigh, people do own their copy right- which is good and bad for us as writers. :)
    Great idea, though.
    Cheers~

  4. Aw, that sucks they wouldn't let you use the quotes. I loved the quotes in The Hating Game! The book is still amazing without them though, and I like your idea of posting them on your fb page.

  5. Yes, I've heard about that video, and I need to go see it!

At least we know Marilyn Monroe took her own advice. No one would of accuse her of any hypocrisy with that statement.

  6. Gosh. In that case I must have a whole history syllabus devoted to me!
Really looking forward to reading about Willow Watts...

  7. Sleeping on the sofa is not a good idea, now, is it? You'll be much more comfortable in bed - don't suppose the nightmares will improve though;-)

  8. Wow! That's not a dream- It's a nightmare!
I can't wait to read your books on my kindle that I get for my Birthday. (Is it my birthday yet?) Just watched the video. Very inspiring.

  9. That's sad they couldn't get approval for using them in the book! I do love this quote, and hadn't realized it was Marilyn. I'll watch for these!

  10. That is a fab quote, I love it....looking forward to more. Sleep tight tonight and no bad dream....! xx

  11. What a horrible nightmare! Sleeping on the sofa never leads to pleasant dreams.

I'll go check out the video.

  12. Love the quote! Thanks for the link! Very inspirational. Hope you sleep better tonight! (Rats biting cats? *scary*)

  13. I absolutely LOVE that quote. So much, in fact, that I have that sticker on my laptop. Right along with Dead Men Tell No Tales... cause I'm such a pirate. ;)
That particular quote, however, is what I think about when writing about my female characters. No lace and fluff here, these women wear leather and can kill with the best of them. ;)
Great post! Looking forward to your book release!

I've heard so much about Ms Revis's vlog - can't wait to see it when I get home!!

    Happy Wednesday!!

Erm... hope you have nicer dreams!! Take care

  21. Sorry about your nightmare Talli, also about your qoutes.....I guess they meant alot to you.
Everything will be fine in the end...it always is.

  22. I know you're under a lot of stress but I'm sure your book will do really well. I'll check out the video.

  23. Ah, that's too bad about your quotes; they would've made a lovely addition. But yeah, all those legal thingies. At least you've found a way to share them--and that will make author following more fun for your readers, too! Extra tidbits to add to the flavor of the novel. :)

  24. Awesome post today and it's so cool that the launch is on Sept. 14! That's the day before my birthday! And I totally agree with Marilyn Monroe and not because I'm a teen (LOL). I'll make sure to check your Facebook quotes! Can't wait!

  25. Ugh I hate that copyright thing when it comes to quotes...I had put a couple of song lines from Eminem and U2 in my upcoming book and of course I got told to take them out ( unless I had a couple of hundred thousand in spare change lying around to pay for the right to have them there...)So yes, i can get the frustration!
Excited for your book and looking fwd to its launch.

  26. I echo what Ranae said; it's a shame they didn't let you use the quotes, because I love the stats you used at the beginning of each Hating Game chapter! But I like the one you posted on here. :)

  27. That's a bummer about the copyright. :( It's a shame 'not well-behaved women who make history' can't include 'women who disregard copyright laws'. :)

  28. Aw, that is a shame over the quotes - still, it will be fun to read them on your FB page. Sweet dreams tonight, Talli!

  29. Hello lovely lady... I've been spending the last few nights eating boiled lego that got in with my pasta... the blue ones are killers! (or at least that's what my dreams reckon)

I love the quotes, shame you can't keep them!

Happy wednesday (ps Beth's vid's not working at the mo...)

  30. That's one of my favorite quotes! I'm trying to make it my mantra. :)

  31. What a quote... and what a rotten dream!

    ReplyDelete
  32. What a horrible dream - maybe you were afraid your launch would "die" - I don't think it will!!! Gosh but you're disciplined, Tali - it's your second launch (since we met) - you're amazing!

A lawyer in Indiana specializes in the estates/rights of dead people (including Marilyn) - had a segment about that on TV not long ago...good thing you found out ahead of time - but what a great quote!!

  33. Darn, that's what I'm doing wrong! (swigs wine from the bottle, and starts picking fights...)
    Thanks. Talli!

  34. Poor kitty. Good thing it was only in your dream.

Love your Marilyn quote. Too bad about the copy write issue.

Preparing for a book launch is an exciting time. Enjoy the journey.

  37. I'd never sleep on that sofa again... Maybe you should burn it? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. What a shame about the quotes - I love them as headings and have used them in two (as yet unpublished/unfinished) novels. I'm hopinmine are far enough back in time to get away with it!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love quotes! I'm always posting them on my Facebook! I'll be looking for all of yours! It's a shame you couldn't keep them in the book. I can't wait until Sept. 14!

  40. That's a good idea. Marilyn has fabulous quotes!

  41. thanks for the link...

shame about the quotes however. Good luck with the launch, i'll be grabbing a copy when it comes out:-)

  42. I really never sleep on any kind of sofa unless I'm super tired. And when you wake-up you wish that you had never slept on it in the first place with all the aces and pains. Richard

  44. Hate nightmares . . . had one Tuesday night that followed me all dangity day! If you tell a nightmare to someone, it releases some of its magic . . .

Congrats on the wonderful things happening! :-D

except for the sucky quote thing, but yeah, copyright issues and all that jazz.

  45. Love the quote- thanks for sharing. Nightmares- I really dislike them. I hope you sleep better tonight.

  47. Aw, what a horrible dream! I hope you sleep better tonight to make up for it.

  48. What a dream! I love that quote.

  49. That's such a shame you didn't get to use those quotes - but cool you're postingthem anyway.

I watched "All About Eve" not so long ago and a very young Monroe stole all the scenes she was in and there was no legal action taken :)

  50. Sorry you've had trouble sleeping. I love the idea of quotes from Marilyn! It's a shame you can't put them in your book, but I think your other idea is a great one! Julie

  51. How disappointing for you Talli that you have been unable to use the Marilyn Monroe quotes within the pages of your novel!

  52. How aggravating not to be able to put your quotes in the book! But, I love the quote you've shared here today. It just went up on the quote wall.
